    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

Not sure Bree. It is my understanding that you cannot upgrade with a click, you must re-install to get 11. That is a non starter for many.

It also my understanding you have to bypass the checks to get 11 on, which again makes it hard for the average user.

I also heard that you would not receive updates although that has been a very cloudy issue. Mine is but will it when the new feature update is made available.



Off to see why a client's backup disk isn't being recognized at the system level.

Well, that was not really a serious intent to use W11 there, just an experiment to show that if it can run there it should run anywhere. :ROFLMAO:

It was actually surprisingly useable, hardly any worse performance than it's more usual 32-bit W10 install.

So far as I can see Ken you can receive updates but not upgrades.

Yes, not so easy for the average user, but relatively easy with a little help. You can do an in-place upgrade from W10 to W11 with a few workarounds to bypass the checks....

All cumulative updates are received as normal on any unsupported device.

Because I was running Insider builds on mine, my unsupported devices have had feature updated offered through Windows Update. These failed on first attempt with the system checks. With appraserres.dll replaced by a dummy file they completed successfully after clicking Retry in Windows Update.

An RTM install on an unsupported device will see and install all CUs in Windows Update, but is unlikely to be offered any feature updates, except perhaps any done by enablement package. That counts out 22H2 as it will be a full upgrade, replacing system files and creating a windows.old.

If the next feature update isn't offered, then an in-place upgrade with workarounds can take care of that.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

As I thought, not the upgrade path that a general user could take without help. BTW the Debian edition of Linux mint (LMDE) still offers 32bit support.

Maybe, I understand 2024 is end of support for that one.

I'm not really much (or anything, really) of a Linux Guru, but I do run a Linux Mint VM to maintain some familiarity and try to learn a few basics. That one is currently upgrading to Linux Mint 21 'Vanessa' as we speak :wink:

Starting with Linux Mint 20 only the amd64 (64 bit) architecture will be supported. This is because Canonical decided to drop 32-bit support from Ubuntu 20.04, which is the base from which Linux Mint 20 is derived. LMDE still supports the x86 architecture.
