Yes apparently, they can tell a lot about one's health by looking into the back of the eyes.

Again, I have been blessed with no eye related health issues. And always had exceptional vision. It's been a couple hours now, and already clearing up. Only slightly fuzzy looking at font on the computer, otherwise it seems normal. :wink:

Well, I have good eyes in many respects, near perfect color vision and little or no astigmatism. Where they let me down is in being long sighted, for which I've needed glasses since about age 40. The seem to have (finally) stopped getting longer sighted, my current glasses have lasted me about 5 years.

Bree, on your machines running Win10, did yesterday's updates seem to take up a bit more space than usual, for you?

After doing all my usual cleanup afterward (LCU/Restore points/Software Distribution...), it was still about 1.1GB.

I can't recall ever having one quiet that large.

I have more than enough room, but I like to keep it as lean as I possibly can. Just an OCD thing I suppose.

Yes, I have that same compulsion :wink:

In my case I'm obsessed with fitting all my backup images on the one 2TB drive (well two actually, the other is a backup copy).

Last night's updates/cleanups/backups were done in a bit of a rush (it was an eventful day, if you remember :wink:

). I didn't have time to compare the sizes with the previous month's images. Now you've asked I can't rest until I've looked....

...Back now :wink:

My best machine to compare any size change on would be my Win11 test machine, System Two below, running RTM Win11 22000. That has had no new software or user files added since last month's Patch Tuesday. The Macrium images are little changed, just over 100 MB larger this month over last. I always make my images immediate after updating/patching, in the belief that that's when it will be at its cleanest and leanest.

Mounting them and looking at System32 and WinSxS for the two Patch Tuesdays it looks much the same, the WinSxS component store is a little under 100MB larger now. LCU is of course empty.

I always start my cleanup with Disk Clean up (system files). I have learned to watch very carefully, some months you don't see Window Update Cleanup appear in the list. When that happens I always run DISM's StartComponentCleanup. I updated many machines last night, some on W10, some on W11, and some on W11 Insider builds. I remember needing to run DISM on some of them, but can't recall which those were.

As an aside, here's an interesting little bit of news. The 22621 Release Preview build (or Beta or Dev, come to that) no longer have any LCU folder. MS telemetry must have told them that the first thing we all do is delete it :lmao:

Just spotted that you specifically wanted to know about Win10. My old 'main machine' got a big tidy up after I migrated it's apps, files and OS to my System One below. I'm still using, updating, and backing up my the old machine though, but like my test machine it has had little or no new apps or files since last month's Patch Tuesday. Here are it's statistics:

So yes, at first glance it is nearly 1GB larger.

Then I mounted it's backup image and immediately found out why. In my rush to get finished I had forgotten to clean out its LCU folder before making the image. That 19041.1889 RollupFix package accounts for the extra 1.15GB. Looks like I will have to finish up the clean up and re-do last night's image for that particular machine. :wink:

I'll be back with revised stats when I've done that.....

EDIT: And now it's finally done (not the fastest of machines!)

Here are last month's image made immediately after patching/cleaning, and two images after this month's Patch Tuesday CU, yesterday's with the LCU folder intact, and today's with it having been cleared out. The latest image is not only comparable in size to last month's, it's actually some 800MB smaller!

All I had done was delete the RollupFix package from LCU and run Disk Clean up (System files) again. The extra 800MB savings (over and above cleaning out LCU) seem to be due to a smaller Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder. On the left below is the July image, on the right is the new August one I have just made.

On checking yesterday's image again, that Download folder was still the same size as in the July image, I guess some older downloads had just passed some sort of 'keep until' date and got cleaned out this time round.
