Yes, as far as I'm aware the .mrimg file format hasn't changed since at least v6. I have at least one PC that still has v7.2 installed and I can use it to browse images made with v8. I've also restored v8 images with a v7 rescue usb (and vice vera).

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

Did anyone manage to get Macrium Reflect v8.1.7280 before it got pulled?

Lucky for you if you didn't get it. There are numerous problems being reported on the Macrium forum. Some appear to be serious.
Macrium is starting to make a habit of these botched releases.

I used to be a Reflect beta tester for years, but I gave it up. They used to give beta testers a free Server license for their efforts. I still have mine.

Beta testers sometimes have a lot of communication with Macrium support, especially when issues are discovered. Sometimes it involves replacing files with test files to help in resolving particular issues.

8.1 has been in beta testing for months.
I'm surprised that it was released without anyone discovering any of these issues.

I'm currently on MR Home v 8.0.7175 running on Windows 11 Pro v 22H2 (Build 22621.1105).
How do I get the v 8.1.7280 update?

Sounds like you don't want that one from all the problems and the recall. I'll wait for the bug fixes since 8.0.7175 works fine.

Yes, it can also be restored by V8.

Yes, I've seen that in action having just tested doing an Incremental on the one machine that got the 8.1 upgrade.

There is one bug though that everyone with 8.1 appears to suffer including me. If you have CBT installed then you cannot use 'safe eject' for a usb HDD, it always says the drive is in use. Disabling CBT for the external drive is not enough, unistalling CBT is the only workaround for that, or shutting down before you unplug the HDD of course.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.
