Solved Latest Macrium Reflect 8 updates


I think the beta testers are pretty crap these days.
Some beta testers are gonna tear me apart for saying that.

I used to be a beta tester and tested Reflect inside out. I remember working past midnight with developers.
But I'm starting to wonder if the current beta testers do anything much at all.
I see so many obvious things that should have been picked up earlier and before release.

Why are we having all these releases being pulled so quickly?
And when they're not pulled, numerous bugs are being reported before an updated fix is released.

I think the current beta testers just want to be a tester just to have the current version.
They're not actually testing like they should be.

There are just too many hiccups with the releases now.

That's pretty much everywhere, I used to do a lot of beta testing for different developers bit didn't get any offers in last few years and even before that they stopped caring about comments.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

Just made a complete backup of my OS , with latest boot-media .
Within 4 minutes incl. verifying ............same speed as previous version , did not encounter any differences , compared with previous boot-media............ :wink:

There is still a free version but it's v8.0 not v8.1. It will be supported until the end of the year.

I just did two similar backups of my C drive plus associated partitions (NVME to 2nd internal NVME)

Medium Compression 1 min 50 seconds , 22GB backup image

No Compression 50 seconds, 35GB backup image. It was backing up at 8 Gb/s which is pretty top speed for my NVMEs.
Roughly 15 seconds overhead for cpu work.

Obviously most of the overhead now is the time it takes to do the compression.

Now my dilemma is space more important than speed LOL?

No but normally use Rapid Delta Restore anyway.

Today I had to boot into the Rescue Media (via boot menu) and it was incredibly slow to load. I have never seen it take that long to load. Has anyone noticed this recently?

From USB3 it takes about 3 minutes just to BOOT and few more to get ready to do anything.

This was from the Rescue Media that you can build into the Windows boot menu. Normally it loads in a few seconds.
