Lenovo Boot problems

I have a Lenovo Yoga 7 laptop, that has a problem of almost 2 minutes from a Restart to boot to the login screen. It is less than 20 seconds from a Shutdown/powerup from boot to login screen. I have used Msconfig to limit the services that load, I only have one app that loads at startup and that is a mail program that screens my mail. The lenovo bios has been set to default values and most everything is default. Lenovo had me return the laptop to their service center and returned it promptly with a sheet that said there was a firmware update. It still did the samething and the Bios is the latest that I can find. I can live with the method of powering down and then restarting to get around the slow boot time, and Lenovo tech says that about 2 minutes is normal. I am open to any and all ideas. Thanks

I think I read somewhere once that with Windows 11, and maybe even Windows 10, when the PC is shut down, it isn't a full shutdown, but more like a hibernate mode where the contents of RAM are stored to disk and then reloaded when you boot the system again. This is different from a restart, which is a cold boot and starts again from scratch, meaning the RAM contents are thrown away and not reloaded from disk.

Don't ask for a link to where I read this; it was some time ago, and I have no idea where I read it. I just seem to remember reading it somewhere, so I could easily be completely wrong about this.

It’s called Fast Startup. Turn it off

Run command prompt:

And check how long it takes to reboot

I tried your suggestion and it did not make any difference in startup. Still takes 1 min 51 seconds from the the restart screen. With fast startup turned off adds about 30 seconds to start from a powerdown and with fast startup on it takes 17 seconds from a powerdown. I will try from a command prompt instead of Run in the start menu, still no difference.

Fast startup prevents a full shutdown, so that’s why it’s faster than a cold boot. Thus, a restart will take longer because it fully power cycles your pc… whereas when you “shut down” with fast startup enabled, you’re not actually shutting it down; and when you “power on”, you are actually resuming from a deep hibernation state.

Restart is about 40 secs on my Lenovo Laptop. Assuming no updating going on, then it gets longer.
I don't think 1:50 is particularly bad particularly when near updating times.
Would not meddle when updating is going on, just bide your time until normal service resumed.
Nothing or very little is wrong certainly would not have sent it to Lenovo.

Fast Boot in UEFI/BIOS is disabled.
Fast Start-up is enabled in Power Options.
Shutdown/powerup, from boot to login screen is about 25 secs on mine.

Shut down according to MS is a combination of Sleep and Hibernation.

Fast Start-up has less hardware checking, that is why it is faster. Not a problem on yours or mine it would seem.

You need to check your windows logs and see if you can find any information there:

To get there right click your windows start menu and choose: Event viewer . Once there open "Applications and services logs" on the left side and then expand |Microsft| and then |Windows|. Scroll down till you find "Diagnostics-Performance" and finally open Operational.
See if you can find anything there!

I just want to let you know that I have finally got the problem resolved. I had to do a complete reset back to a clean install of Win 11 Pro and then after installing all my apps and trying a Restart instead of a Shutdown/Restart the problem is gone as it now takes 34 seconds from Restart to Login Screen. I save every attempt with another Restore Point to try and isolate the problem. I appears to have been some type of installation glitch of Win 11 and seems to be cured.

A final update and a real headache. Now I realize why I created a restore point after each install of an app. Last app to install was Ccleaner and it is the culprit. Almost 2 minutes from Restart to Login. Went and removed Ccleaner v6.39 and restored my computer to the point just before the install and everything is back to greatness. Will be contacting ccleaner tomorrow about my almost year left on pro and ask for a refund. I knew it was something in the software that was causing the problem.

Should have heeded the people who did not like ccleaner 7.0 never should have updated mine. Oh well live and learn.
