Booted my Lenovo laptop this morning to find that it was in the middle of an update. Had a lot on my mind and didn't pay much attention. But I saw it go from 11% complete to over 20% complete - it was going VERY slowly. Then it evidently needed a reboot. Now I have been looking at this screen for at least 40 minutes:

laptop update stuck x.jpg

The warnings are so dire about not interrupting the update process I am afraid to do anything. What's my safest option? I apologize for how little info I've provided. Silly me, I expected the process to work.

Thanks very much for any advice. Bob

Windows Build/Version
Not sure what it was running but it should have been very recent. Not sure what it was trying to install but almost certainly the latest.

Thanks VERY MUCH FreeBooter! Unfortunately, I can't get back to this today. But I will certainly be working on it tomorrow. And again, thanks very much for your response.

Hi Bob,

This is Windows built-in and the menu is from the OS itself.
You get there by Powering off/on your computer THREE times.

do you have an image created before the update, something like Macrium? if so you can restart your machine and load the image and try the update again. If the worse comes to the worse and you have to reboot, go to Settings> Windows update>Advanced options under Additional options is recovery and you should be able to uninstall the update from there

Thanks much to everyone who has responded to this thread. I now have a functioning Win 11 system. But I don't have 22H2. (Actually I don't recall ever seeing what update it was trying to install but I am guessing 22H2.) Whatever it was trying to install I'd guess it will try again someday. I need to take a break from this for a few days, but then will be back asking how to prevent the same problem from reoccurring the next time Microsoft tries to install 22H2 (or whatever it was trying to install). Thanks again to all of you. You are generous with your time and expertise and I am grateful for it. Bob
