Hi folks
If using Linux whether on a VM or as a native HOST machine and you like KDE as a desktop then the plasma 6.1 beta is out now. On Fedora rawhide it can be installed without any issues at all -- simply (assuming you have the KDE plasma desktop installed in the first place) type in the command line : sudo dnf upgrade. As simple as that !!!

For KDE just install the basic plasma workspace and not all the default applications and it is very much improved these days running far leaner and efficiently and is quite "Windows like" so is OK for people only used to Windows who wish to experiment with Linux.

Install dolphin (file browser), firefox (or any browser of your choice), konsole (decent terminal for command line) as basic --then add applications of your choice.

Still though as a VM on Windows Hyper-V I get the wretched "UTC thing" for the time on the VM which is 1 hr out !!! Typical Americans -- if it's not invented here" syndrome then make something up. What's wrong with old fashioned hrs offset from GMT.

Cheers

I prefer Gnome because I can run xscreensaver, which is a good way to test stability, and, of course, Plasma 6.x only uses Wayland, which is incompatible with Wayland. Nevertheless, I install the very latest Fedora Rawhide from the nightly compose on a small (256GB!) SSD and use the Plasma desktop the usual way (I'm using it now). No dnf update or dnf upgrade shows anything to do. How can I test the level of the Plasma desktop?

Install fastfetch and run it.
