Hello,

I've been having issues with by PC since roughly November of last year. I've replaced the PSU, GPU, and most recently the Motherboard while troubleshooting.

Symptoms:
  • Screens Freeze, Peripheral input stops working, Sound continues to play through headset/speakers, Case LEDs reset to default colors after about 10 seconds.
  • I use my pc for gaming and so this has generally occurred while gaming. Not specific to one game in particular.
  • Have to hold power button or press reset button to restart PC.
Troubleshooting: (occurred over several months)
  • Memory test - sat
  • Clean install of windows 11
  • Replaced PSU, GPU, Motherboard
  • Clean installed graphics drivers
  • Checked Device Manager for out-of-date drivers and updated as necessary
  • DSIM and SCF SCANNOW

System:
  • AMD Ryzen 5 5600
  • AMD Rx 6800 XT
  • ROG Dark Hero III motherboard
  • 4 x 8gb dd4 3600MHz Ram (set to 3600MHz in bios)
  • Sabrent Rocket NVME 4.0 1TB
  • Windows 11, Latest updates installed (not at home, can get more specific windows build info later and update)

Yesterday, I installed the new motherboard (ROG Dark Hero III) hopeful that I had the solution. Played Diablo 4 for about 3 hours and had the freeze happen (ugh). For the first time I had a Reliability History entry for the event (see image attached):
Problem Event Name: LiveKernelEvent
Code: 1cc
Bucket ID: LKD_0x1cc_EXRESOURCE_TIMEOUT_OWNERTHREAD_win32kbase!hdcOpenDCW

If anyone can help me solve this, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you

The computer had a manually created BSOD using Windows Driver Verifier (WDV).

The last BSOD was 05/05/2023.

Windows failed fast startup.

The live kernel events were 1CC and 193.

1) During the troubleshooting please make sure that there is no overclocking.

At the time the log collector ran the recorded RAM speed was 3600.

The installed CPU Ryzen 5 5600X supports RAM speeds up to 3200.

Please turn off XMP.

2) Turn off Windows fast startup:

3) Open administrative command prompt and copy and paste

msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic

msdt.exe -id WindowsUpdateDiagnostic

For each of the Microsoft Windows troubleshooters click view detailed information > post images or share links into this thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive.

4) Make sure that file cleaning is not performed during the troubleshooting (Ccleaner, etc.)

5) Run:

Tuneup plus

Gather additional dump

Post share links into this thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive.

1. I've set ram speed back to AUTO in bios.
2. I've disable fast startup.
3. Ive ran and attached the two troubleshooting reports.
4. Ensured as recommended.
5. Will run this tonight after work, please standby.

No testing performed yet to see if any of these steps has solved the issue yet. Will have time tonight after work.

See if the computer can run each version:

After posting a Tuneup plus share link:

1) Make a new restore point:

2) Read this link on Windows Driver Verifier (WDV):

Learn the methods to recover from using the tool by booting into safe mode and running one or more of these commands:

verifier /reset

verifier /bootmode resetonbootfail

Start WDV with these customized settings:

a) Test all non-Microsoft drivers
b) Test no Microsoft drivers
c) Start testing with the three customized tests in the TF link

Plan to run WDV for 48 hours with various customized tests for driver testing purposes and an additional 24 hours of system stress testing.

If there is no immediate BSOD then open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:

verifier /querysettings

Post a share link into this thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive.

For any BSOD post a new V2 share link into the newest post.

Ran the WDV with Windows Only Drivers checked. Got BSOD after bios post before windows login.
V2 Logs: JAKES-DESKTOP-G-(2023-06-08_18-12-32).zip

Had to boot through safe mode to reset Verifier to get the pc back to normal.

Appreciate the continued help,
Jake

Detach non-essential logitech hardware then uninstall all logitech software.

Make a new restore point.

Make sure that these misbehaving drivers are uninstalled:

lgbusenum64.sys

lgvirhid64.sys

Only if necessary reinstall them at this time.

Restart WDV.

If there is no immediate BSOD then open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:

@zbook

I ended up wiping my SSD via the SSD Erase tool in my bios. I then installed Windows 11, all windows updates, updated all drivers, and installed a few games. I did not install any RGB software or the ASUS software as I had a suspicion that the RBG softwares may have been causing issues. I ended up having another pc lockup with the same symptoms.

In this link there are 2 zipped files and a screen shot.
1. "JAKES_PC-(2023-06-12_07-05-52)" This was from after the lock up.
2. "Non-Microsoft Drivers WDV" I performed the WDV with only non-microsoft drivers selected. No BSOD or crash.
3. "JAKES_PC-(2023-06-12_07-20-40)" I performed the WDV with microsoft drivers selected. There was a BSOD, this is the V2 pull afterwords.

With having wiped everything and re-installed, I am concerned that it is possibly an issue with Windows 11 and my AMD hardward (gpu and/or cpu) or that I have a bad memory stick (4x8gb).

Although I performed a memtest a few months ago, I think that I should try removing 2 of the sticks and operating with 16gb of ram to see if the problem persists. If it does, swap the 2 sticks out with the other 2 and see if the problem persists. Do you concur with this to test the possibility of a bad ram stick?

If this does not work, I may try going back to windows 10.

I will wait for your concurrance on these and/or perform any other testing prior to doing so based on your analysis of the attached files.

Thank you again,
Jake

I can't rule out the possibility of finding future crashes to be related to Adrenalin later on. This can be hard to catch, in my experience.

Best to update Adrenalin, after DDU'ing.

Hey RJAR,

Thanks for your reply. In the past I have attempted DDU’ing and installing adrenaline to latest update. Iv’e also tried DDU’ing to a past stable version. No success.

Current status is:
Wiped hard drive on Friday.
Fresh installed Windows 11 and updates.
Installed latest Adrenaline.
Installed a few games to continue testing.

Have had the PC lock up twice since doing this.

I ran Tuneup plus. The log is attached in the link.

I then ran WDV. No issues with Non-Microsoft drivers selected. I;ve attached the screen shot of verifier /querysettings

I then ran WDV with microsoft drivers. Slow to boot, didn't make it to profile login screen before BSOD. I've attached the V2 logs post BSOD.

(FYI I have removed 2 memory sticks, currently operating with 2x8gb. Testing if one of the sticks is causing the Lock ups. So far, no lock up has occured.)

Thanks,
Jake

Wanted to provide an update, I've confirmed that my RAM is not causing the issue. I played with 2/4 sticks installed, and had the pc lockup. swapped the 2 for the other 2 and after some time also had the lockup occur again.

In terms of hardware, I only have 2 components left, CPU and SSD.

Its very difficult to understand what is going on here. I've replaced or tested most of the hardware and yet this still occurs.

Thanks for your continued help with this.
