Solved Logitech MX 3 Mouse - not recognized on boot

Windows 11 Pro, v22621.2428

I recently updated to Windows 11 from Windows 10.

Since then, occasionally, when I boot my Logitech Mx Master 3 mouse is not detected. It is connected wirelessly rather than Bluetooth. I can shut mouse off and on, I can removed USB Receiver, it will not detect the mouse. This device can connect to three computers but wirelessly it connects through position 1. Position 1 is flashing like it is looking for receiver. ( The USB receiver is plugged into my DAS keyboard so there is less than a foot between the two.)

To restore I have to reboot. So far on second boot it has worked.

This behaviour was not present in Windows 10, I've had the mouse for years. I checked the charge level on the battery. It shows more than half charged. I uninstalled the Logitech Option+ software, downloaded the most recent and re-installed. No change.

I uninstalled mouse from device manager, checked for hidden devices in the mouse category and then scanned for devices. Mouse found but still the issue persists.

Today I connected mouse through bluetooth but I'm not sure if mouse will be detected in UEFI panels.

Anyone seen something like this or has ideas for resolving.

If you want to mouse to show in UEFI, connect via dongle.

I have the MX Master 3 that's how I did it. I never use Bluetooth, even though the mouse is capable. Also make sure you're using the Options software. To be claer you can either connect Bluetooth or Unifying via dongle under Options...

Thanks. Yes I was connecting with dongle as I described. My problem is on some boots my mouse is NOT recognized with dongle and I have to reboot.

As I said I re - downloaded Options+ software.

Regular Options is not supported with this mouse according to their message. Copy attached.



Options+ does not have a screen to select connection type. I assume if dongle in it uses, if not bluetooth neds pairing.

I wanted to keep the wireless dongle but I can't reliably boot and have mouse recognized so I went bluetooth and it is recognized every boot. I was looking for an answer to fix the fail to recognize the dongle. This is specific to 11 as this issue was not present in 10.

That's odd. Zero issues here. Have you tried switching the dongle to another port?

If you have this is the mouse "MX Master 3" (as I do) it is most definitely compatible with "Options". And I know this because I'm running "Options" as "Options+" does not support my Logitech Craft KB.

Anyway, I downloaded Options+ to see what you're seeing and mine works and is connected to as I suggested without issue.

Under Options+, when you click "Add device" you should get this screen...


If you have the "Unifying receiver" (USB dingle) installed on the PC, it'll show in the listing... "Logi Unifying receiver". Click that and the mouse will be connected via the USB dongle, and not "Bluetooth". If you DON'T have the receiver installed, you can't connect via USB.

When using the dongle, you will see this (star symbol in a green box) on the home page...


Note is says "Connected via "Unifying receiver". In this configuration, there are no issues in the BIOS with either mouse or keyboard.

I'm 99.9 sure BT transmissions are supported in the BIOS - i.e., if you have a device connted BT, it won't work until the system boots into the OS (Windows). I know mine won't work like that, and also why I use the USB dongle.

As the mouse works, in Options+ it is present, the battery level shows, everything is fine. Of course when I'm in Options+ I'm in Windows, I'm not booting. The only time it doesn't work is occasionally on boot.

So I went into the unifying receiver software and I unpaired the device. The device shows up but states it is inactive even as I move mouse. Once I unpaired, and this is NOT blue tooth unpairing, I re-paired. All part of the Unifying software. So now I have to try lots of boots.

I've actually had the intermittent mouse in BIOS issue, but it's been years since. What I can suggest is if the BIOS has a Legacy USB setting, enable that and see how things go. That actually fixed my issue when I had it.

Today I don't have Legacy USB enabled as I have nothing "legacy", but if I had your issue, that would be the first place I'd start.

Also, make sure you have the (latest) chipset (motherboard) drivers installed. Also asked if you tried swapping USB ports?

I have mouse detection problems with my Logitech G502 as well. I honestly think it is the Logitech software that is causing it. The last few updates have had trouble going in, and my keyboard and mouse lights are all over the place like the PC isn't loading the profiles sometimes. Very annoying. My next keyboard and mouse are not going to be Logitech if this keeps up.

Is what you are trying to say that the mouse is not working in the boot menu / BIOS / UEFI? But if you let it boot to Windows it works?

Because what you said sounds more like "Sometimes when I boot / reboot my computer, the mouse does not work", at all, meaning neither pre-Windows boot nor after Windows has booted.

While I agree Logitech's software can be sketchy at times, we can also say that about any application (as well as Windows)

I've been using Logitech's keyboards and mice for at least 20 years, and while I've been frustrated with their software at times, I've never been frustrated with the actual hardware.... and why I continue to use them.

Also, that nothing is 100 percent perfect.

My problem is only when I boot using wireless dongle. If the mouse is not detected, I can't select anything in boot menu, then when windows starts there is no mouse. At this point I cannot get the mouse back. Unplug dongle, plug it back in, try different USB port, turn mouse off and on, nothing will bring mouse back. So I restart and so far the mouse has then appeared and works.


I would suggest that anyone having an issue with Logitech wireless should start their Unifying Software and determine that your devices are recognized and showing as active.

Mine wasn't even though mouse worked in windows and you could set things with their Options programs.

Oh I totally agree. The hardware has been excellent. I have been using Logitech for many years, and they have been my go to brand. I'm just getting really frustrated with the drivers and software. It seems the more features they add, the more they break basic functionality.

If they can get back to making solid software, I am going to stay a customer.

Yeah. One thing that was really, really cool, though, with their older software (SetPoint) was the ability to bring in your own profiles for customizing your devices. I miss that one aspect of SetPoint.

I, too, have used Logitech devices for a couple of decades (or close to it), and I'm usually happy with their hardware (with a few notable exceptions) and generally meh about their software.

That being said, though - I've had the fewest issues overall with Options+ versus any of their other iterations.

Haven't had any boot issues since I re-paired mouse with dongle using logitech Unifying software. On a side note my wife uses a logitech bluetooth mouse on a recently purchased Dell. When I was booting hers the other day I noticed the mouse is not present until windows starts. LOL
