First you have to determine what your needs are. For example, I wanted my passwords to be synchronized among all my computers and phone. I tried a few but ended up with RoboForm. I had to pay for RoboForm Premium to get that synchronization.

I recommend you try several to see which one you like best. A free password manager may be enough for you. Otherwise, you may have to pay for one to meet all your needs.

I recommend cranial synapses.

Seriously, I keep most of my passwords in my head, unless they are really complicated. Then I write them down in a little book I keep squirreled away in my office. I am leery of password managers as they are a single point of failure in your PC. Crack the master password and voila! You have just given away all of your passwords. Of course, if my PC and book are stolen, I am buggered as well, but at least my passwords can't be stolen by an online hacker.

I dunno, call me paranoid, but my company is happy with my security protocols.

The problem with that is that it would require me to remember with perfect recall several hundred, very complex passwords. Not gonna happen :-)

I tried Keepass, didn't like it due to lack of TOTP support, tried Keepass XC but it's a bit of mess. Don't care for it at all, especially having to manually unlock it every time.

Fair point, but my PC is hackable by an actor outside my house/organization and my passwords could be stolen even if I use KeyPass. Work forbids me to use a password vault anyway, so I guess the question is moot.

KeePass is not the most polished app around, but it has everything I need. And most of all, it does not save my passwords in the "cloud." The master file is stored locally where ever I want it.

I have a script that starts and unlocks Keepass when I open Firefox so I never have to unlock it.

Before I had a password manager I reused the same password all the time. That is a good way to get hacked.

Password managers are becoming one of the most important security applications that you can have. It's more important than (dare I say it) system image backups. But for me, a good password manager must give the user the choice of where to store the data and not rely on some product's servers to store them. It should also be TOTP 2FA and passkey supported.

Seriously, I keep most of my passwords in my head, unless they are really complicated. Then I write them down in a little book I keep squirreled away in my office. I am leery of password managers as they are a single point of failure in your PC. Crack the master password and voila! You have just given away all of your passwords. Of course, if my PC and book are stolen, I am buggered as well, but at least my passwords can't be stolen by an online hacker.

I dunno, call me paranoid, but my company is happy with my security protocols.
