Since the September monthly update, my Windows Update keeps installing a driver named "Intel - Extension - 2.1.10105.19". It does it every time I start the Windows Update.

I'm not sure what it is related to. Other forums suggest it's a part of the Intel Dynamic Tuning, but I uninstalled the related devices and reinstalled them, with no effect on this driver loop.

My Windows version is 24H2 26100.6854. Can anyone advise on the nature of the issue and how to get rid of it?

You can disable Windows driver updates, which should resolve your issue; see link below. I am of the opinion that driver updates should be from the manufacturer's website and not Windows updates. Of course, as with everything, other users may differ on the issue.

It's Intel-Innovation-Platform-Framework-Driver and it's an older version than the one from Dell:

Intel-Innovation-Platform-Framework-Driver_965D0_WIN64_2.2.10203.4_A02.EXE

So if you want it installed - just install this one. Windows Update has this old BUG - where it keeps trying to install outdated drivers (seen many cases - even on my own system - tries to install older GPU drivers and other Intel software) - nothing new. As other mentioned above - it's recommended to hide it.

On the other hand, if you're in a updating mood - might help to update to latest BIOS:Dell XPS 14 9440 System BIOS | Driver Details | Dell UK - since it includes: This BIOS contains the new 2023 Secure Boot Certificates (released on 10 September 2025).

Thanks, @neves, my BIOS is already up to date.

I also installed the package you referred to, and Windows Update is still attempting to install the mentioned driver. In fact I can see that in my OS I have even never driver version installed than the one provided by Dell .

That's the reason I'm seeking support here...

And you got it (the support). Download the "Show & Hide Updates" tool developed by Microsoft - exactly for this purpose: https://download.microsoft.com/down...9cd-4275-8c95-1be17bf70b21/wushowhide.diagcab - and hide "the faulty update" as 2 other forum members mentioned above. It's an old "bug" that's been around since Windows 7 but fully enforced in Windows 10 (that's 2015 - a decade ago). And still wasn't fixed. Thus, the "Show & Hide Updates" is a workaround. It's the same answer/solution - you'd get if calling Microsoft support or asking the support of your OEM (Dell).
