Lost everything is Taskbar??

Hi,

Hopefully some one will have an idea as to what I can do. If anything, Wife did an update on her laptop running Windows 11 and when she went to use it there are nothing in the Taskbar , so no way of shutting it down and basically nothing at all. is there a way to retrieve this?

It has also wiped out any network settings. Laptop is only a few months old.

Try pressing CTRL + Shift+ ESC keys to bring up task manager and right click Windows Explorer and select restart.

As for the shutting down part, does pressing the Windows key not bring up the Start menu with the shutdown icon on the far right?

Since a recent update I occasionally lose my taskbar just as you describe. You can bring up task manager and restart explorer as described above, log out and back in, or restart which will bring it back.

Tip- Make a shortcut on desktop with path of C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c taskkill /im explorer.exe /f & start explorer.exe
Name the shortcut "Restart Explorer" and give it an icon. It's a quick and easy way to restart explorer when it acts up (which seems to be more often in 11 than previous OSes).

Hi, I have tried that and it doesn't alter anything. I did a google search and tried that, Thanks for the suggestion though.

No Nothing, hence me pressing the off key and it give a option to slide down to turn off, I think the update as corrupted something as I don't have any internet or much else.

I was under the impression it was a laptop with a keyboard. Posting full system specs in your forum profile would be helpful.
If you do indeed have a keyboard try ctrl+alt+del keys to get task manager if ctrl+shift+esc doesn't work..

Do you Win+x menu or does win+R work, if so go to control panel>program and features>view installed updates and uninstall the update you think is causing the problem. Then learn about creating an image with Macrium Reflect

i believe i had this once and the fix, now dont beat me..lol.. but i thought i had to restart windows explorer and refresh the desktop, then restart your laptop see if that does anything

Tried uninstalling the updates which unfortunately wouldn't allow me too, come up with a error , Please see attached (hopefully) a Photo I took of the Bios Showing the spec, I have come to the decision of trying to do a reset, BUT unable to see how to do this given that Dell has it's own software and I am unable to access this to do this, I thought it would be in the bios? but couldn't see any option in there? Thanks for all everybody help.

Have you tried doing a repair install? Repair Install Windows 11 with an In-place Upgrade Tutorial
