I'm not sure if you did, but some might say it looks like it. Unless maybe you claimed the opposite of what you FACTUALLY are doing so maybe it was just a decoy, but then, I don't really see why anyone would want to do that in a place like this one. But I know that it happens, as that's just the nature of the internet of course. Either way, I will just assume that you also have other forms of protection besides backups, just like I will assume that you are simply taking these other ones for granted, like, to the point of not even thinking about them when you wrote what you wrote re backups.

Well That could be but MS tells me that Defender protects from Hacking and Macrium Has protection as well. I also practice safe computing, do not go to sites that are not safe. I also back up to an external drive and have been doing so since Windows 7.

Do advertisements from commercial backup software vendors protect people against hackers?

No, you are supposed to take care of that yourself. It's like Ford or any other telling you
that your car will never be stolen. Trust US.

I do take care of it myself, i.e., rather than just let my backups take care of it all for me. That in fact plays a fundamental role in what I have been doing for a living over the past 1½ decade: helping to develop and maintain corporate solutions for the kind of distributed environments where it is top critical priority to secure the integrity of other people's dataspheres─including a few of the world's largest ones─all of which still predominantly are Enterprise Java. Even, in 2023. Backups are always important of course, but then you still obviously need to protect the systems and mechanisms you use to create them like I have already tried to point out muliple times in this thread. It is only logical the fact that hackers tend to focus their main attention on these specific kinds of protections a lot. So should anyone who strives to better protect. This is the exact opposite of hollow statements from the likes of "backups are the best protection". They quite simply are not.

I'm pretty sure that, that statement was meant in case of a windows failure or hardware failure
and not for any security reason that may have happened such as a security breach.
I'm also certain that most people here have adequate security measures that they rely on
for the specific reason that you have mentioned and not just backups.
Your warnings in this thread did not fall on deaf ears even though, we did not respond to them
in a written fashion. As you said, I would not disclose or specify any of these precautions for
the same reasons you have mentioned. Even though we are on a help forums, this does not
mean that some bad actor(s) are not just here for the help but, we do appreciate you taking the
time to try and explain how to solve someone's problem.
