M.2 RAID set-up help


I believe I found the source of the problem. According to Intel, the Z790 chipset is not compatible with what I am trying to do.
I ended up ordering a different motherboard with a different chipset.

That doesn't prove that your Gigabyte board supports your mult-M.2 adapter card, but there are some Z790 systems that do.

Aorus Z790 elite AX. I will be replacing this one as there are a couple dead SATA ports and intermittent boot issues. The board I bought is MSI MPG Z690 Carbon AX.

    Just built it for something to do. Used mostly for backup for important stuff.
I didn’t want a RAID array or JBOD as neither would result in 4 individual drives.
Also, my IT guy is the real thing! He has a company that maintains severs for many local businesses and even has several hospitals as clients.
I can only go by what you post...
I’m trying to set up a RAID array using four M.2 Gen 4 NVMe SSDs. They are identical 4 Tb drives mounted on a PCIE X16 expansion card. The motherboard is a Z790 Aorus Elite AX, the processor is an Intel i7-13700K, 64 Gb DDR5 5600 RAM.
At any rate, I have nothing further to add as I've no idea what you're looking for.

Good luck. Hopefully your next board will give you what you want.

I've had an Asus Z690-E for a while. It includes a "Hyper M.2" adapter card, which I have never tried. (I only use two M.2 drives. One of which is mostly a cache for Photoshop.)

I can't help wondering if he couldn't have compromised and gone with RAID 10. This would have given him both redundancy and performance together, but it would have reduced his "usable storage" by half. That is, if such a thing is possible with that card. I'm half tempted to try it.
