Hi folks. I use Macrium Reflect 8 free and have a question. I have 2 disks (see attachment) one disk has all my programs and data on, the other is the OS, RE tools and the makers image etc. If I do a backup can I do both SSD's in one go and if so can I just restore the partitions I want? ( I hope this makes sense ) as at the moment I back up the C drive and then a separate one for the D drive

Yes, when you perform a restore operation you would select what you want to restore.

NOTE: That's how the licensed version of Reflect works, I see no reason to think that the free version would behave differently in that regard.

I performaed a test where I backed up two disks much like you show in your example. This will result in a single image file that contains both disks. When you perform a restore, you will get a screen that has an option to select what disk you want to restore (see sample screenshot below):

image1.jpg

Likewise, if you want to simply mount your backup and assign a drive letter to it, Reflect will allow you to select one or more of the partitions to mount and assign a drive letter to. The screenshot below shows an example where I selected the backup containing two drives and I am about to mount only one of those partitions, although I could mount more than one at a time if I wanted to do so.

Glad I could help! Unfortunately, I just messed up doing this test. I have a folder under which I store my backups. Then I have subfolders for various backups. I created a test folder for this test. When I was done, I accidentally deleted the parent folder meaning that I deleted ALL my backups.

Normally, I wouldn't be able to do that because Macrium Image Guardian prevents that, but I disabled it for the purpose of this test.

That's what happens when I don't drink enough coffee.

Turns out to be not that big a deal. First, I always have multiple backups. Second, I'll just simply run a new backup now. Just a bit of a pain in the kiester.

You can backup both together, or both separately (you could even backup each partition separately if you really wanted to - no idea why one would do that though LOL).

Personally, I back up physical drivers separately.

The one possible advantage of backing up both drives as one image backup is you could restore all partitions to a single (large) third drive in one go, rather than doing two separate restores.
