Hi Guys. If I make a Macrium Reflect backup of Windows 10, and then upgrade to Windows 11 with the option of going back to Win 10 if needed. Should I make my Macrium recovery disk on usb before I upgrade to Win 11, afterwards or does it not matter? thanks

It shouldn't matter, but if you make it now (and test that you can boot from it) you'll be ready for anything.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

unsupported machine: Legacy bios, MBR, TPM 1.2, upgraded from W10 to W11 using W10/W11 hybrid install media workaround. In-place upgrade to 22H2 using ISO and a workaround. Feature Update to 23H2 by manually installing the Enablement Package.

Provided you have the storage, always a good idea to make multiple backups - and the first should be before you actually start anything that you've planned for your system.

Because then

you'll be ready for anything.

Agreed - main thing is to make sure you are on latest update of Reflect (for version you use). I always create a iso after any Reflect update (even if not totally necessary), so I can revert to an earlier version if a restore bug was detected in new version - a rare event (and even then the bugs are for very obscure issues).

Thanks, I wasn't sure if there may have been some files that would only work with certain operating systems.

Thanks good advice, I wasn't sure if there may have been some files that would only work with win 10 that would stop it working with win 11.

Thank you, I guess it can easily be overlooked after on update. I will remember that.
