This is probably a simple question, but when cloning my primary drive to a new SSD, do I need to create a new MBR on the target drive or does Clone this disk in Macrium Reflect 8 copy the MBR from the original drive? This is for when I finally can get around to copying my old 512GB m.2 SSD to the new 1TB m.2 SSD I just bought. TIA.

Hi,
Clone is the same as the original.
That's what I thought. I wanted to make sure. I didn't want to have to end up cloning it more than once. The cautious side of me wants to install the MBR before I even clone, knowing that it's going to be overwritten by the clone.

Hi,
I don't like clones because they aren't as good or reusable as system images are.

Huh - a clone is as good as an image.

It all depends on what you are doing.

To create a drive to direct swap for an existing drive , cloning simpler.

If you want a backup at different points in time, primarily to write to same drive (although you can restore to new drive i.e. effectively cloning), then images are better.

Hi,
People should already be using system images so no reason to change to clones

Most the time cloning comes up it's because they don't use system imaging which means no backup at all which is a bad thing.

Clones that I know of can only go on same or larger disks
System images can go from large to smaller disks.

This isn't an issue for me because I'm cloning to a larger disk. I'll reallocate the space once the clone is finished.
