Well - the killer questions are:

1) Will we be able to buy V9 with a perpetual licence?

2) Will we be able to upgrade our V8 versions to V9?

We just do not know but Acronis no longer offer paid versions, as do many other software vendors (not just imaging tools).

In the end, there a a number of MUCH cheaper but still very reliable imaging tools that may not be as flexible as Macrium Reflect.

Hell, you can use Windows own FFU command free if all you need is full backups. TBH with modern nvme drives, I do not use incrementals that much thse days anyway.

Me three. Since I installed NVMe drives on both my main machines, and since Macrium became SO much FASTER in version 8+, I just have four full-imaging definition files, each triggered by a single shortcut click. The image below is for my OS drive and the drive with all 35+ of my programs on it. Big deal.

They normally offer an upgrade price to previous version owners - I paid £25 to get V8 after owning V7.

I don't have a problem with a subscription, but is this $49.99 per computer, per year. If it were $50 per year and i could backup all of my home PC's, I might consider it.

I suspect that most of Paramount's venue comes from the Business line of products, not the Home line. If these changes to the Home line make any significant improvement to their bottom line they are, indeed, in trouble.

As much as I like Reflect, I'm going to spend some time perusing the "Poll on Backup software" thread and see what other products people like.

Point is it could be a tiny update and boom, Reflect no longer works. This happened a while back on an Insider version and Reflect did a workaround. But once support has ended .......

Its one computer per lease.

Go on Reflect website and choose 5 licences, and it is 5x the cost.

Who in their right mind would pay £184.75 for 5 licences per annum?

Even Acronis only charge £70 for a 5 pc lease.

I am not in the IP and if it does stop working there are other alternatives. I am not saying I will not update it, I will as long as it is NOT on a subscription basis.

BTW My MR has been updated since my license expired. When support ends, you just cannot get support from MR. , updates will continue till a new release of MR comes out.

I already did! Back in 1997! I started using "Ghost" back then and still using it today. No licenses, no updates to worry about. No lease, No Rent, No Cost. No OS compatibility, because it runs in DOS, not in Windows and doesn't care what it's backing up. It just backs up ones and zeros, and never misses.

It will back up, Windows, Server, Linux, or a data disk with no OS at all, FAT-32 or NTFS, it just doesn't care.
I can run it from a bootable Flash Drive, Cd, DVD, or even a Bootable SD Memory Card.
I just used it to Clone one USB drive to another USB drive and both were bootable. The cloned USB drive is running a backup on my main PC as I sit here typing this.

I got the 4-pack Black Friday special for $79.00 last year for version 8.1. I can use the software forever, but not sure how often they will provide updates for this version. Maybe I'll just keep using it until it no longer works in a future OS. I'll wait to see what happens if and when a version 9 is released.

Yeah, at that cost, I'm not even sure having an image backup is worth it to me. I almost never restore. My data files are almost all duplicated in OneDrive in the cloud. I don't experience issues where I have to reinstall windows. My son's computer is 3.5 years old, mine is 2.5 years old, wife's is about 2 years old and they are running on the original windows 10 installs I did on them when I built them.

we are talking crossed wires. I am talking abourt when V9 comes out. V8 will no longer get updates.

At that point, even a minor update to windows can break V8. It has happened before but Reflect updates sorted things .

However once V9 cones out there is no backup support on v8.

Ok risk is low but not zero.

There are loads of basic free imaging tools. I will accept reduced functionality, so long as I can do full image backups, which is what I do mostly anyway.

I actually do restores quite frequently. Only difference will be that restores will be full rather than by difference, taking maybe 8 minutes rarher than 2 minutes.

I only have one PC and will happily pay a reasonable fee to use Macrium. Sadly many software vendors are now moving to a lease model.
