I am setting up my new computer and I installed Macrium Reflect v8.1.8110 on it because I could not find the latest build 8631.
On my old device I removed the Macrium licence and uninstalled MR.
I then used this licence for v8.1.8110 on my new device.
MR finds the update to build 8631 and I click on 'Download'. It seems to download and then MR closes but nothing else happens. The download fails to execute.
I relaunch MR and see it is still build 8110.
I disabled my Bitdefender security and tried again but no different.
Q1 - Does anyone how to get MR to update successfully?
Q2 - Is it possible to get MR v8.1.8631 as a direct download rather than an update package? I could then uninsall build 8110 and instal build 8631.
This prompted me to look in folder C:\Users\Ken\AppData\Local\Temp and the patch had been downloaded to there. I dragged it (reflectPatch.exe) to the desktop and ran it. This updated MR to v8.1 build 8631 so all okay now.
What a stupid place for Macrium to download patches to. Why not the normal Downloads folder?
Is Macrium itself installed in the Temp area rather than the program files area? Programs do this if you select the 'instal for me' option rather than 'instal for everyone'.
It is worth checking.
Also right click the Downloads folder and look at 'Properties' checking that 'Location' button is set to point to 'Download' and not somewhere else.
Because it is temp file and should be cleaned up after use, either by the patch file itself on successful completion, or any of Windows clean-up options. Once patched, it is of no further use.
Would you really prefer these patch files to accumulate in your Downloads folder, and have to clean them up manually?

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.
UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

I monitor my Downloads folder so there are never more than 10 downloads in there.
If the patch had auto-executed after downloding then there would have been no problem. I had to go online until I found that web link I posted about otherwise I would never have found it.
Just thought others should know in case it happens to them.
I have now saved MR v8.1 installer and the patch to my PC in case of future need.
