This morning I was offered update v8.1.7401 I am running the free version 8.0.7279 my question is should I update. I am running win 11 22H2 22621.1485

No most certainly do not unless you intend to buy a licence.

As it was and update not an upgrade I'm sure it would have failed and returned to 'no update available' notice. Just a bug I'd assume.

I agree - something is not gelling here.

I have free version on a several virtual machines and they have NEVER been offered an upgrade to V8.1, even to the trial version.

We would have had lots of posts if people were getting offers to install V8.1. Only people on Home got the offer to upgrade from V8.0.

I have checked the vms and no upgrade offer on any of them.

You cannot even directly download trial version by mistake from free version menus - you can click to buy an upgrade but you are then routed to a web page
