When deleting backups to free space,
  • Is it restricted to backups with the same 'Backup ID' ? Or,
  • Is it the oldest backup irrespective of the 'Backup ID' ?

There it says under "Other Tasks\Edit Defaults and Settings\Backup Defaults\Retention Rules" that it's the "target volume", see screenshot
