As informed by @Bree (New Macrium Reflect Updates [2] - Windows 10 Help Forums), the annual Black Friday deal is here - a 4 licence pack for the normal cost of a single licence (or half price if only buying 1).

So £50 for 4 licences ($67) for at least (estimated) 3 years until next major upgrade.

Reflect Home - Cost per annum per licence (over 3 years) = $5.60.

Acronis - cost per annum = $45 i.e. 8 times more expensive!

I really don't understand your Acronis vs Macrium bashing.

BOTH are very good except now Acronis is too lost in space forgetting that their first objective is backup not cyber protect.

There is no price competition anymore. From now on Acronis only sells subscriptions for the newly re named TI-Cyber Protect Home Office.

Now, just to let you know, more than 80% of SSD makers offer a free edition of TI with their hardware so for a lot of users it's basically free.

You can even use Acronis 2017 to back Windows 11. The issues with Acronis versions isn't with Windows, but mostly with hardware as is the case with Macrium. But if you have a Win PE recovery drive you can recover almost any backup.

So, again, both are great backup software.

Acronis is bloatware with features not needed for backup software....... Macrium does not, is does what it is designed to do, nothing more , nothing less and at a far better price .... even when not on sale

My personal experience with Acronis:

Ran into a real world situation where the Acronis software could not restore data. Backup was NOT corrupted. I was on the phone with them for about 8 hours total over several days. I had to finally figure out the solution myself.

At the time I had a license to TI and to the corporate software. That very day I cancelled all licenses (even though I had maintenance for almost another year) and completely closed my Acronis account.

When I know their products better their own techs, that's where I draw the line. Backup software is CRITICAL and both it and the support have to be stone cold reliable.

Granted, that is my experience only, so take it for what it is worth.

The license is a perpetual licence for v8 and all subsequent updates for v8.

If/when a v9 is released you would have to buy a new license to upgrade. Typically an upgrade license is offered at a 50% discount. You can of course continue to use v8 which will be supported with updates for a year after v9 is released. Older versions will still work, but a change in Windows may stop them working. Macrium may issue an update in that case, they have done in the past but it is not guaranteed. I still have one Win10 machine that has Reflect v7 which still works to this day. The last update for v7 added Windows 11 support.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

If/when a v9 is released you would have to buy a new license to upgrade. Typically an upgrade license is offered at a 50% discount. You can of course continue to use v8 which will be supported with updates for a year after v9 is released. Older versions will still work, but a change in Windows may stop them working. Macrium may issue an update in that case, they have done in the past but it is not guaranteed. I still have one Win10 machine that has Reflect v7 which still works to this day. The last update for v7 added Windows 11 support.

False. It has the same options as Macrium.
Please get your information right. I had been using Acronis for 13 years. I changed to Macrium simply because Macrium has a perpetual license.
Acronis only now has an annual license.
