To Win 11 (after much thinking on old unsupported hardware) but atleast I didn't got the watermark thingy! :) Updated the system (after a few reboots? That normal in 11?) cleaned up the Win old folder.

I'm fine and nothing EXPLODED!

Jump to 11? With me, it was more like a wiggle or a slither. No sweat, no strain.
A very simple three step process.

1. Download the Win-11 ISO from a trusted source,
2. Use Rufus to burn the ISO to a Flash Drive, removing all the MS Nasties
3. Boot up my PC with the Flash Drive, and install Win-11 to my SSD, allowing the installer to remove partitions from the SSD and format the drive.

Install complete! Apply customization to my own liking.

There are always those who will jump.

Welcome to Eleven Forum, glad you made it over here.

In preparation for Windows 11's initial release I did invest in a 'supported device' and migrated my old main machine's OS and installed apps over to it. That now my System One in 'My Computers' below.

Contrary to what MS would like you to believe, W11 will run on almost anything, no matter how inappropriate. I've been running 11 on my decidedly unsupported System Two (with its 1st gen i5) since October 2021. I've been waiting for for something to go bang, but so far the only hiccup was that it didn't get offered the 21H2 to 22H2 upgrade - nothing that an in-place upgrade with the ISO and a workaround to skip system checks couldn't get around :wink:

I still spend almost as much time on Ten Forums as I do here. I still use Windows 10 on some of my machines. They're all unsupported devices for W11, so I'll be keeping them on W10 until end of support on 14th October 2025. If they're still in working order by then I'll have to choose what to do with them, but plenty of time to decide...... :wink:

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

I also upgraded my old PC (system 2) yesterday, nothing exploded this end either. I have a few questions that I will ask in forum.
To upgrade, I used “Method 1” in the Upgrade Installation Procedure section of procedure posted by @hsehestedt —post here:

I upgraded because I want Microsoft to recognise that I owned Windows 10 Professional. In a few days I will do a fresh install using the Rufus method. Fun days! And it will only be my 23rd fresh install this year 🤪 (I had problems)

    I purchased this for $109 because it is the only Laptop I have seen with 1920x1080 resolution for the money. OK for streaming, email, etc..

Windows 11, properly Rufusized, will install on your fridge, if you can find the USB port!

Honestly, the core OS itself will run on just about anything, as long as it's 64 bit capable. It's all the little nasties that MS likes to hang on their OS downloads that cause all the hate and discontent. And, problems for the uninformed users.
Get the core OS from some other reputable source, minus the MS nasties, and life gets remarkably simpler. AMEN!
