Match My Noctua NH-D15 Chromax Black Air.


I have an NH-D15 (not the black one) and my temps were about 20C higher than the OP's until I discovered that my VCore was insanely high. I had it set to "Auto" in my BIOS. Turning it down, I am now getting much more respectable temperatures. I honestly thought my fans were on the way out.
My other system that I had prior to this new build also had a NH-D15 but it was chrome but still amazing for it's cooling capacity. I'm glad you found the fix. Kudos.

But the core clock of the new GPU that you currently have is already overclocked from 2460 MHz to 2550 MHz. Just some food for thought... :-)

That is interesting because I did not make any changes myself. So I fired up AIDA64 and check Overclock and this is what I found. 3686.4 MHz Have I inadvertently made a change??

Ya this kind of sounds like me. But if I had a Porsche! I would be closer to 60 or 70mph. ;-) But with my PC's I've never OC on any of my builds. I know it is designed for OC. I just don't do anything that would require an OC. I guess that makes me kind of boring :rolleyes:
Nothing wrong with not overclocking. Honestly, the gains are often small, but the effort to get there can be significant. Not too mention, the extra power draws can be substantial. I actually undervolted my 3080 as it reduced power draw by nearly 100w and it dropped my Temps nearly 10c, for about a 2fps drop....that was a no-brainer as far as I was concerned.

I'm talking about your GPU, not CPU. A standard GeForce RTX 4060 has a core clock of 1830 MHz, which can be boosted to 2460 MHz. Yours also has a core clock of 1830 MHz, but can be boosted to 2550 MHz. That's right... the "OC" in "Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4060 Gaming OC" stands for "overclocked". It's only a 90 MHz difference, but it's there, and, it's there because you paid for it.

Sorry about that. I do know I have the OC version of the card but it did not occur to me the RTX 4060 would come overclocked out of the box. I thought that the OC version left you the option to OC it yourself.

I uninstalled GCC downloaded an update reinstalled and BAM! GCC is working. As you mentioned in your post #45 "A standard GeForce RTX 4060 has a core clock of 1830 MHz" So should I just leave it as is or bring it down to 1830 MHz? I'm fine with the minor OC just being curious.

I suppose that if you change the Boost Clock from its default setting of 2550 to only 2460 and you don't touch any of the other settings on the Performance tab, it would be equivalent to a standard GeForce RTX 4060 the moment when you click on Apply.

BTW, the small orange dot that appears on the Update Center icon 🔄 on the left in your screenshot seems to indicate that new updates are available for download.

Just leave it as is. The 1830MHz is NVidia minimum/guaranteed design spec at a certain voltage, power draw and cooling capacity, but your GPU vendor has tested and verified that your particular chip is capable of running at the set higher frequency. Not all chips are the same. This is called binning. The speed will drop down to almost non existent anyways while not using the GPU for heavy workloads.

My GTX 1080Ti is also running at about 100MHz higher speeds than spec by default. Been doing so since the release of the card. So don't worry too much.

Thank You, your advice is appreciated. I think I'll leave it as is because it just works for what I do. As for update yes there are a lot. But there is one that's not quite right... NIS! Yes the version is N/A but dose that mean GCC wants me to download and install it anyway? Why would I need an update for something I do not have? Is GCC trying to get me to install software I do not want or need? Don't get me wrong I like GCC but to offer me a third party software outside of Gigabyte IMO is unacceptable. If anyone is using GCC be observant in your updates.
