MB + Processor upgrade to Win 11

I'm beginning to think that just going to Microcenter and specifying a win11 build then cannibalising some drives and my GPU out of my existing build would be the easiest way to go. Then, as you say, I'd still have a functioning/existing win 10 system for backup or to sell.

A new MB may come with a header for a USB 3.2 Gen1 or 2 front panel port. Your CoolerMaster Elite 330 lacks one. If that matters to you, you might want a newer case. (However, most newer cases lack front slots for a 5.25" optical drive. Should you care. There are cases with front slots, though.)

The only thing I currently have in front slots is a multimedia card reader and the dvd drive. And I almost never use the dvd drive.

Yes.
If you are just upgrading a CPU and you have a capable motherboard to handle it, then it's fine just do an upgrade. But if you are going to upgrade a CPU, the motherboard and the RAM modules, might as well build a new system. Of course you can still use your existing drives.

No one uses a DVD drive anymore. All drivers are available for download. Unless you burn CDs and stuffs.

I use card readers (frequently) and an optical drive (rarely).

They are all external.

I'm unsure what the value of a system with that ancient a CPU would be.

Particularly after people junk their Windows 11 non-compliant PCs this fall. :(

As for DDR5, I noticed an improvement when going from 5600 MHz (CL43) to 6000 MHz (CL38). I don't think it will give a boost in gaming, but programs started running faster.
Of course, you should choose a memory kit with lower voltage for this frequency.

A lot of new motherboard have sockets for 2 or more M.2 SSDs. My best desktop has a new motherboard with 2 x 2TB M.2 NVME SSDs. Originally it had a hard drive but I don't use it anymore. Then only hard drive it has now is an external one for doing backups. My other two desktops both have 2.5" SATA SSDs. They both only have hard drives for backups.

If your going to Microcenter check out their Powerspec line of desktops. I have purchased three of them. Two of them I'm still using. After several years of hard use the CPU on my first Powerspec died. I was going to replace the CPU but decided it was time to upgrade. I bought my third Powerspec because I felt like updating to a newer computer. I use both of them almost daily. I find them to be of good value and better then buying a OEM computer. Nothing is proprietary and no bloatware. It's like building your own system except it's prebuilt.
