Lots of useful info guys and I appreciate it!
I have ran the Revo uninstaller and it zapped McAffee. Security now shows Defender to be active

I see these were left behind,

** How can I remove these folders *cleanly* ?
Thank you
According to Google
""The reason those MCLOGS and WebAdvisor folders are still there is because Revo Free doesn't have the kernel-level permissions to bypass McAfee's self-protection drivers, and WebAdvisor is technically treated as a separate program. Antivirus companies publish official cleanup utilities specifically to wipe the slate clean for fresh reinstalls when things break. If you run the official McAfee MCPR tool, it will completely remove those remaining directories for you."

I can yes but I'd rather do it cleanly, so I will run McAfees uninstall program to hopefully remove those leftover folders.

As others have indicated, Windows Defender is all you 'really' need.

Just to wrap up folks:
! used the Revo tool to uninstall McAfee. It left behind some folders. (I may have forgot to check a box etc)
Then ran McAfees uninstaller MCPR.exe
That got rid of C Program FIles/mcafee junk

Confirmed that Defender is indeed active yes
Installed MalwareBytes Standard and ran a full scan,. all is good.

Thanks for all the tips!

I've been using the combo of Defender and MalwareBytes Standard. I have a lifetime subscription to MalwareBytes, so I might as well use it. 🤣

McAfee or McAweful as we knew it was often supplied on any PC whether corporate or not with notable performance degradation to the unfortunate PC it was installed on -- these days Windows defender is ALL YOU NEED -- no Malwarebytes etc etc -- those were very much C20 solutions for very poor protection on Windows and where things like infections / other malware was rampant.

Today Windows defender has almost military strength robustness and scamming is by far the more problematic things home users need to deal with in C21. Even some of those dubious torrent sites such the one still flying the Jolly Roger flag tries to prevent its torrents from dispensing malware. !! (Hint - if you DO use torrent sites like the aforementioned one never download torrents that are in .RAR format -- for some reason these historically were the one's which contained nasty "extra unwanted" payloads).

W11 itself is also far more secure too. Why on earth these companies are still trying to flog those dead horse A/V programs designed for leaky systems in C20 is beyond me plus also the logic of people who buy and install this stuff on HOME computers -- corporate computer security is a different issue by far !! though.

Cheers
jimbo
