Hi All,

My fairly new Lenovo laptop running Win 11 (21H2 build 22000.856) has almost constant wifi problems. Almost always get the no internet icon & cannot open any websites etc. The wifi chip is a MediaTek 7921.

All my other devices are generally connecting fine.

I've not been using this laptop very much, but I'm fairly certain it was working ok & got worse, maybe after a Windows update.

Sometimes if I turn off wifi, disable the device & re-enable I get internet access for a few minutes, but it will eventually lose internet access again.

I've tried the following:
  • network reset
  • remove & reinstall driver
  • updating the driver through win update
  • manually downloading drivers from Lenovo site
  • tried to install an alternative driver for 7961 (from instructions here: MediaTek MT7921 WiFi 6 Adapter Driver causes Crashes.) despite browsing to the file, windows wouldn't let me install it
  • running windows troubleshooter
  • release ip & flush dns cache
  • I’ve tried pinging various devices on my network and I do get a reply (no packet loss)
I'm at a loss as to what else I can do, any suggestions would be massively appreciated.

Thanks

When you get no Internet icon on your Windows, had you checked the LED lights on the Router device? Might be you need to contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider), as it could be a problem at their end.

Just made some progress, I am now actually posting from the machine in question!

In network settings, I have changed the IP assignment from automatic to manual & set a custom IPv4 address, & set DNS servers to google (8.8.8.8). Changed to Open DNS & still working fine

I'm guessing it was the IP that has fixed it, but I can't see why the address was wrong, or if it was, why it would work for a few minutes & then fail again.

No problem with my internet connection, all other devices connect fine.
