Hi, I just noticed an alert in Windows Security indicating Memory integrity is off and that my device may be vulnerable. I tried turning it on, but it keeps reverting to "off". I'm not sure if there is something in BIOS I need to enable or if it's just here and it's not letting me do it.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks! That's what I found out. I looked for that setting in BIOS just now and can't find it. I'll have to poke around more.

Well, this is annoying. My motherboard (listed in My Computers) indicates to enable SVM mode in BIOS, which it is. There's no setting for UEFI hardware virtualization. So, I'm at a loss. Still researching it, though.

I searched for "virtualization" in the BIOS and turned up nothing. I'm currently updating my AMD Chipset Driver to see if that does anything of note. I'll delve back into the BIOS once the chipset is updated.

I tried turning it on, but it keeps reverting to "off"
That's because you have one or more incompatible drivers.

I can say this with some certainty as the blue link at the bottom of your screenshot saying 'review incompatible drivers' only appears if the scan has detected one or more.

1648205470193.png

Click on it to see what they are, and if there's anything you can do about it.

See my post #24 here for how I discovered one of my machines couldn't turn it on, and how I resolved it.

The tutorial also talks about incompatible drivers.

It is odd you are seeing the warning, unless because you have tried to enable it and Windows has detected an incompatible driver, the message is telling you to resolve incompatibilities and scan again. Core isolation is off on my device but there is no warning.
In order to use the feature you need hardware and all necessary drivers to support running in a virtual environment. Try using Autoruns to temporarily disable all non MS drivers/ services (non boot critical of course) and try to enable the setting again, if successful then re enable one at a time to find the problem one, it will require several restarts during this process.

That's because you have one or more incompatible drivers.

I can say this with some certainty as the blue link at the bottom of your screenshot saying 'review incompatible drivers' only appears if the scan has detected one or more.

View attachment 25346

Click on it to see what they are, and if there's anything you can do about it.

See my post #24 here for how I discovered one of my machines couldn't turn it on, and how I resolved it.

The tutorial also talks about incompatible drivers.

Well, the drivers are associated with programs no longer on my computer. Now, how do I uninstall a driver when the program isn't on the system? Is there a good driver deletion tool (free) you know of?

Now, how do I uninstall a driver when the program isn't on the system? Is there a good driver deletion tool (free) you know of?
If the uninstall left remnants behind then Revo Unistaller may be able to help. Or you could do what I had to do, search for and locate the driver(s) named as incompatible, then open a command prompt at boot so I could delete it while it wasn't in use.

Also, some drivers can be uninstalled from Device Manager, but to see them you may need to select 'show hidden devices', as I showed in my post #24 I linked to earlier.

As you know what driver is causing the issue then as @Bree says, in device manager select show hidden devices.
Expand different devices and the grey'd out ones are the old drivers.
You could also try the old fashioned disk cleaner and select 'cleanup system files' and 'Device driver packages'.

I've already done everything you and Bree suggested prior to reading your posts. Unfortunately, the drivers aren't as simple as listing the name. At least, I don't see them listed. I already ran the disk cleaner as well. The drivers are still an issue. I'm at an impasse at this point. I'll have to circle back to this issue since I have to work and then take my wife to the dentist.

Uh. There's no driver listed. What?

That driver is the SMARTVHidMiniVistaAmd64.sys driver for SMART HID Device from SMART Technologies ULC. These HID devices should be found in Device Manager under 'Human Interface Devices' (you may need to show hidden devices). If so, you should be able to unistall it from there.

If not, apparently you should find it (and may be able to delete it) in:
C:\Program Files\SMART Technologies\SMART Board Drivers\

If you can't delete it because it's in use, then boot to a command prompt then you should be able to delete it.

Human Interface Devices (HID) is a device class definition to replace PS/2-style connectors with a generic USB driver to support HID devices such as keyboards, mice, game controllers, and so on.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

unsupported machine: Legacy bios, MBR, TPM 1.2, upgraded from W10 to W11 using W10/W11 hybrid install media workaround. In-place upgrade to 22H2 using ISO and a workaround. Feature Update to 23H2 by manually installing the Enablement Package.
