I don't remember how ago it was but maybe was with Windows XP. It wasn't unusual for someone to answer a question involving the Control Manual to simply say to search for a particular function. Apparently that was easier than actually remembering how to navigate to it. That was true even on the Microsoft support forum. Sometimes I find I even have to do this with Settings even though not quite as often.

The settings panel is fine for me; I can't remember the last time I used the control panel.

One of the reasons I still use Control Panel is because of StatAllBack. If I just disable StartAllBack for a user I can turn it back on by clicking on the StartAllBack icon in Control Panel. In Settings the only option I can find is the uninstall option.

C:\Program Files\StartAllBack\StartAllBackCfg.exe

create a shortcut and put where ever you want (programdata > start menu > programs is a safe bet). then you can re-enable it via launching

Thanks for the tip but that's not my point. My point is that not everything in Control Panel can be done in Settings.

I c ould be mistaken but I think it first appeared in Windows 95.

I happen to like Control Panel an use it a lot. You do know that you can choose not to use it. "DIE Control Panel", This is really going to make your life better?

I've been using Control Panel since... well... whenever Control Panel was invented.

Hopefully things like Open-Shell, Chris Titus, and Winaero Tweaker (mentioned here) will fill in the gap.

Remember it was on a support forum on the Internet. It had to be after 2000 because that was when I first got High Speed Internet. It was 1.5Mbps. They advertised it as 50 times as fast as dial-up.

In a big way!

As an example, one of the worst offenders is Storage Spaces. There are some operations that you can accomplish ONLY in Settings, other operations can be accomplished ONLY in Control Panel. When I was doing testing recently I found that I have to have both open at the same time.

That is but one example. I want one or the other, not both.

Just had a live example. In another thread we are dissing Auto Play. @OAT noted the Auto play setting in Control Panel. There are also settings in the Settings app. The constant back and forth makes me crazy.

After they've moved everything to Settings, there's no need to kill off Control Panel, just leave it hidden from public view unless you're willing to go and find it. Ultimately everything in Control Panel would linked back to the function in Settings, no harm, no foul.

That's what I wish MS would do. With the large capacity of the drives we have available today, I see no reason why they can't.

Good riddance - Control Panel became an uncoordinated mess. Now I am used to setting, I have hardly used CP for years.

God Mode was even worse - just a blooming list and dying. How can it be a God if dying?

Settings is not perfect but it is much more logically organised than CP. Of course, one has to invest time to learn how to use settings effectively.

I shall not miss it one iota.

Maybe I'm just a nutjob, but when new releases come out I go through every single option in settings - and I do mean <every.single.option> to get familiar with where everything is. I pretty much have settings committed to memory now :-). It is simply well worth the time for me to spend a little time up front memorizing where everything is rather than struggling to find stuff later.
