Microsoft is blocking Windows 11 build upgrades on systems with StartAllBack

I've seen several instances of Unchecky information, but so far, I haven't seen Unchecky on an unsupported list for 24H2. The "current" version is 1.2 but so far I haven't found a release date . . . found it! Seems to have been released April 2018.

Soooooooo, depending on what it does, unchecky may be on the chopping block; however, if it is, I don't think it's been announced by MS.

If you uninstall SAB , do the update and try to reinstall SAB after you will get the warning but, according to Moonique over at Virtual Customs if you rename the the installer from startallback.exe to something else like sab.exe , it will work.

Unfortunately I cannot verify this because luckily I am still on Windows 10 and can still customize my Windows setup the way I want it not how MS feels I need to have it.

The issues Microsoft blames on third party developers were created by Microsoft.

Such programs were running fine before it changed the rules. That's its prerogative but these changes have nothing to do with making Windows better.

Microsoft wants to get to decide what's allowed to run on Windows.

Well, it is their software and has been stated on here a few times you only own a Licence to use it. They own the source code and although I'm not saying what they are doing is right, they do get to decide what's allowed to run on their software and their code as explicitly stated in the licensing agreement you agreed to when you installed Windows. If they feel that SAB is somehow reverse engineering or changing core system files then they have every right to block it as it violates said agreement.

I'm sure Ms's lawyers are up to it but I have a slight query with clause (v).
This implies that if you have shared files on a windows machine or any sort of server capability e.g Plex / VLC, Internet server, multiple vm's running linux - so effectively multiple users using windows software you could be breaking the EULA.

I'm sure though hosting websites / using e-commerce is perfectly legal as are things like file sharing and multi-media servers. - I'm sure if this were a problem it would have been massively reported all over the internet by now.

Hey, thanks for sharing that info! I haven't faced that problem, but it's good to be aware of it. If you're stuck with StartAllBack, maybe try reaching out to their support to see if they have any workarounds. If not, getting a Windows 11 key from another source might be the way to go. I've heard some folks have had success with that.

I meant as in the program is no longer supported by the dev, as in it's not being updated anymore.

I guess I've been fortunate, because (thus far) I've never had any issues with StartAllBack or Open-Shell on any of several computers. I had both installed (during all of Windows 11's updates. (Not a single issue). I absolutely despise just about every aspect of Windows 11's Interfaces (File Explorer in particular). As a long time Windows user, I always thought that Win 7 was the most 'customizable'.

The issues come first, then the fix. I do agree that the issues are fixed by EP developers.

I was referring to the common observation that it has been raining all sorts of complaints about new problems with File Explorer, a lot of which can be directly traced back to Windows 11 production builds. ExplorerPatcher's ability to let you choose Control Interface: Windows 10 Ribbon fixes all of these problems before they happen. At least for me, it has been doing exactly that... I always install all preview updates through Windows Update on my Windows 11 immediately as soon as they become available. I am what they call a "Windows Outsider Most Hated Previewer" (MHP). :D

Johnny and I were married almost 51 years when I lost him. We never separated our money. When there was a major expense that one of us wanted we talked it over. If he wanted something and we could afford it I told him to get it. I wanted something and we could afford it he told me to get it.

Sorry for your loss. My wife and I don't do a joint account. We each just pay a certain amount of bills roughly being equal as much as possible. This way we dont need to fight over money or talk about things. As long as the bills are paid and a certain amount is put into joint savings each month, you can buy what you want. It is so freeing. No fighting over purchases etc. We implemented this after witnessing so many people we know fight about money. It has saved a lot of grief and removed any issues.
