Microsoft PC Manager app now available for Windows 10 and Windows 11

Microsoft PC Manager needs to be deprecated before it even gets a toehold on our comps.

I tried it and honestly dont see the point of it. The only feature that was kind of nice was the finding large files feature.

I just never see the need for ccleaner or these kind of software anymore. In the xp days for sure it definitely helped and was useful. Nowadays, not so much

If i may ask, is there a good program you use to clear out all the temporary files in various directories?

disk cleanup with all options checked does a decent enough job, Or settings > storage > cleanup

Please forgive my ignorance; there was a time when i felt pretty comfortable with all the advancing technology, but that train passed me standing at the station around the year 1999.

How does one use "settings" to clear out all the differing directories that contain temporary files?

Installed it briefly to check out, then decided already have enough Problems with SecondLife Game ((Get to a Sim Change on any SIm, and just see Water Ahead, which means if i cross i crash lol, and have to relogin again)) Been dealing with this issue since November 2023.

Did Install Nvidia HotFix Driver today to see if that happens to fix it---praying it does lol

As for SecondLife I've done the following since November 6th 2023

Contact SecondLife support--worked with from November 8th-December 3rd--they concluded in end was something on My Computer Systems, Problem with Internet Provider, firewall or Internet Providers Gateway Modem

Allowed Them to do an Adminstrative login with my Account during troubleshooting--nothing found

Clean installed Offical SecondLife Viewer 2-3 times as directed lol

FInally Clean Installed Windows 10 Home on Gaming Laptop at Very End of November and Same for Windows 11 Pro Desktop lol

Requested a Newer Gateway Modem from Comcast Support

Escalated as far up in Comcast Support i Could

Had Comcast Tech Out whom fixed outdoor line and splitter, and checked the Gateway Modem (Might Replace again at some point if issue doesn't solve)

Probably was installed Microsoft PC Manager probably for about an hour or two lol on my 2 Most Used Systems

Microsoft recently published in the Store its official app for optimizing and boosting performance in Windows 10 and 11. However, it also contains some odd stuff and questionable features.

"Purging the Prefetch folder is harmful" maybe back when PC's only had 2 - 4GB of Ram!

Tell that to member @TechnoMage2021. He says he's been purging it every night for decades. It's part of his Cleanup batch file.

I clear mine often...,
when the Prefetch folder has 17 calcexe.pf's in it, the Calculator can probably open faster on it's own.
Besides, most of us have 16GB+ of RAM.

Based on user pain points, it provides a one-stop computer problem-solving solution

It will seem to me that this Microsoft PC Manager app is by definition predisposed to consolidate the innumerous built-in maintenance utilities > just make it responsive to how each individual uses his/her machine and AI can help

This program does what I need it to do - but - it puts an icon on my desktop that I cannot get rid of. I do not have it loading at start up and theres no option to not install one. Appreciate any and all thoughts. Thanks in advance.

To those who intend to use the app, a word of caution and this has been confirmed by other users.
If you have changed your Hosts file to block advertisers or are self hosting a web site thru IIS, this will wipe out your file to a reset status.
This will happen without warning or notification.
File is in %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\Drivers\etc The file has no extension.
If you haven't not configured your Hosts file, this should not matter to you.

Good going Hazel! I know that I DON'T!

For anyone smart enough to look through their junk pile, also known as a Hard Drive, and find where programs store their JUNK, you can also write a little batch file to clean out those folders every time the Batch File is run.

I've spent 40+ years, searching out and destroying junk on my (many) computers.

My current "Cleanup.bat" program is about one page of command lines, each line finds a particular junk hiding place and DELETES it. And then there are the four "Global" commands.
Del /F /S /Q C:\*.tmp
Del /F /S /Q C:\*.old
Del /F /S /Q C:\*.log
Del /F /S /Q C:\*.bak

Simple lines like that can greatly reduce the overburden (junk files) on your PC's hard drive, and they can be run one line at a time from a CMD prompt, or put into a simple batch file, to be run with just a Mouse Click.
Yes, I do dump the junk out of the Prefetch folder, that is, until I discovered how to just disable prefetch all together.
With 16GB of ram, and a Crucial 500GB SSD, I really don't need one more program, like Prefetch, futzing around in the background.
And, disabling Prefetch was so simple too! I just went into "Services.msc" and disabled "SysMain". That did it!

To my own Cleanup.bat program, (Batch File), I also add lines to clean out all of the Temporary internet files from Edge and Firefox, the only two browsers I use.
Just those two folders can pile up several thousand TIF's per day.

A Typical one day's work for my little Home Made Cleanup program:

Some days, there are even more junk files to remove.

I'll take a raincheck on the Microsoft program, but thanks for the heads up.
