Microsoft reevaluating approach to AI in Windows 11



 Zac Bowden:

As part of Microsoft's effort to "fix" Windows 11 this year, I hear the company is reevaluating its approach to AI on the platform, with plans to reduce/streamline many of the Copilot buttons and experiences found across in-box apps.

Copilot and AI will remain an integral part of the Windows platform, but I understand that going forward, Microsoft is going to be more tactful and deliberate about where Copilot shows up across the OS.

I also understand that Windows Recall is being reevaluated too, as its current implementation has failed to resonate with users. Microsoft still thinks the concept is strong, so it might evolve into something else down the line.

I am thinking since it's basically mirrored in Win11 settings. Just fix settings to make it flow and ditch device mangler all together. (yes I spelled that correctly). ha ha.

As I mentioned earlier erasing 440 billion of your shareholders wealth will make you do a complete 180 of your current direction. This is not a "oh, I think we are going to do something differently because, you know", this is a OH FOODLE, we FOODLED up big time. We better fix this or all of our jobs are going to be gone and our user base will be going else where.

That changes, going forward this week by the sounds of it. I think Microsoft and Nadella got the wake up call they didn't see coming for the past month they have been getting hammered by their Ai strategy, which is completely off the rails now. That's a good thing. (in my Martha Stewart voice).

Rather, they have this uncanny ability to make themselves look the hero when they screw up:
"We fixed an issue where..."

I don't care HOW they save face. They know they "FOODLED" up, and are now going to be righting the ship. And, yes, every now and then a glimpse of the Foodleing up gets released, like when Nadella stated publicly that cancelling WIndows mobile was his biggest mistake. I think this one ranks right up there as well.

The basic issue with many AI implementations, and this certainly includes Microsoft, they're trying to fit a round peg in a square hole. They're not trying to solve existing issues with AI, that would be too sensible! They're trying to force AI into places where it's really not useful or maybe marginally useful at the most. If they actually tried intelligently applying AI where it makes the most sense, it would doubtless be received in a more positive light. Instead, they're trying to jam it up any of the user's body orifices they can fit it into, and predictably many users are resisting that effort!

Exactly, and the fact that Ai is not the future they think it is. it's the latest FAD. The bubble is going to pop soon and we can all go back to normal PC usage.

AI will certainly have great future! But more for special purposes. Like in medical knowledge and medical treatment. Like in safety purposes for all kinds of transport, trains, cars etc. And many, many more (even purposes I would like less, like surveillance in busy streets).

But to push AI in normal consumer PC's and smart phones without asking users how they feel about it IMHO is completely wrong and doomed to fail!

For sure, leave it out of my medical treatment, I still have some living to do! After all, with the AI models all trying to prevent themselves from being shutdown, they might just consider me a risk and snip... I'm gone! :unsure: :oops:
