Microsoft Solitaire collection

Hello guys,

I have been playing solitaire for years. Suddenly it will not run. It will open to first page, but will not actually run. The little card symbols in the centre will spin, but no further. I have tried resetting, deleting and re-installing, but nothing works. The computer is up to date. So maybe somebody of the members experienced the same problem and has already a solution for it.

I've had so many problems with that game too! I even bought it from the MS Store, only for it not to run after trying everything. They wouldn't refund my money either.

And of course I say that, and it's running fine, except the popup "We couldn't sign you in to XBox Live". . But I just click cancel and it runs.

My husband almost had a coronary when he kept having problems with his games in Windows 10. I solved that problem by uninstalling the app completely and installing the old Windows 7 version. It's been updated to work in 11 too. You can pick and choose which games you want to install. Get Windows 7 games for Windows 10
They will show up in your Start menu when installed.

Someone has not been listening!

We've cussed and discussed this old game so many times, it's no longer new news.

The Solitaire game I've played for over 33 years, and still do, daily, did not come out in any version of Windows, but was part of DOS. If this forum software would allow me to attach files, I would, but alas.....
To play the original Solitaire, all you need is two files: Sol.exe and cards.dll

I did a web search for those two files, using Edge and all I got was a bunch of gobledegook.
Do your own search, and see if you can find a place where you can download those two files.
There is a possibility that you may also find them on an install of Windows XP.
Or,in the 7zip file attached to this post.

I've had those two files on my own Utilities disk (CD or Flash Drive) for years, and I put them on every installation of Windows.
Sol.exe will run, as long as Cards.dll is in the same folder.
I install the two files to their own folder in the root directory of C: and then make a shortcut to Sol.exe and put the shortcut on my desktop.
It plays just fine on Windows 11/Pro/64.

Of course the XP games that required a Microsoft server, no longer function.
But the ones in the pic, work just fine.

I used to like playing Tetris.

On a side note...

I serached Google Play Store (for my Android phone), for days... trying to find the regular Solitaire game, that was as close to XP Solitaire as possible.

Best I found was Solitaire Klondike

get the old "classic games from Win 7" for win 10, W11 from the winareo site -- they work much better and even have the old "Hearts" game too. (works for W11 too - even on latest canary build).

Without some of those games I'd have been bored to death at some stupid meetings / especially those big "town hall ones" that consultancies like "Accidenture" (Accenture) etc seem to love when you could finish your task and get home early - you have to hang around and hear some young squits young enough to be your grandkids who haven't a clue about how to get a project completed on time rabitting on about "best practices" and showing to all and sundry that they've never managed a project in their lives.

Love an expression a Yorkshire (UK) colleague commented on about those guys --"All Wind and PI--".

Works fine, 7 Zip seems to throw more issues with extracting that winrar, Use winrar and its fine.
