Solved Missing Drive Upon Clean Install

Appologies in advanced as I may have missed this issue.

ok, for the past 5 hours i have been hitting a wall regarding performing a clean install of Windows Pro on a new ASUS VivoBook 15 X1504.

I get to the screen where it should show the Drive of OS but its blank.

I read up on what the issue may be and ASUS was adising on disabling the VMD Controller if failing to install the IRST driver. Well, I found the driver in question and tried to install via USB Drive but nothing really happened. So i decided to disable the VMD Controller in BIOS and then the drive shows up. But after Installation I turned the VMD Controller to enabled but computer wont boot up as it encounters an issue. So I disable the VMD Controller again until i can figure this out.

oh, and on a couple occassions upon the clean istall at the drive section it was just showing my installation USB Drive.

For the life of me I cannot figure this out.

surely this isn't right, no laptop should encounter these sorts of issues. I dont get it.

according to my Device manager all driver are there and installed and according to ASUS from there website all of my drivers are up to date.

I'm starting to regret buying an ASUS Model and should of stuck to ACER lol

Anyway, I really hop someone can help...... but like you're talking to a 5 year old. I used to be quite etch minded way back when it was Win XP, Vista, Win 7.

All of the current laptops need the irst driver to clean install Windows.

I thought it would have already been installed from the get go when i checked drivers were there and installed what i could via website..... I have tried to install it though and evidently failed. Im doing something wrong thats for sure.

the IRST Driver is missing but I have tried to install it the old fashioned way. via USB and direct.

You can use step 10 here Clean Install Windows 11
OR, my preferred method requires no added drivers. It is to:
Change disk mode from RAID to AHCI in bios, begin the install again and your disk will be seen. Be sure to delete all partitions on the drive and install on unallocated space.

I have no issue re-installing again.....

But the VMD Controller is disabled and it shouldn't be. I need to fix that.

As for changing the RAID to AHCI there wasn't an option to change that. pretty sure it so 'no raid' next to driver in bios.

I really need a solutuion to get this driver installed but every time i try it diesnt seem to work.

I have just downloaded the IRST driver again, extracted into a folder.

this is what i done the last few times and ill do it again,

so i will put the folder containing the driver onto the windows 11 USB Drive and will boot up and when i get to the drive window i will browse to locate and imstall.

question is, should i enable the VMD Controller so main drive isn't visable or do it when it is visable?

if that makes sense.

Members have been trying, not sure you’re trying the suggestions.

Glasskuter mentioned to change from RAID (or whatever) to ACHI.
That would be the first thing I did.

I'm listening.... I have been in the BIOS countless times and just gone back in.... don't see that option.

I can’t seem to download the Manual for your Laptop.

Where did you find the Drive settings for RAID/ACHI.
Is there a section in your BIOS in Advanced Mode (or somewhere) > PCH storage configuration > SATA mode selection?

so you're saying it doesn't need to be on with my system requirements.... if thats the case then issue solved?

begs the question though, why what it enabled in the first place and then having to disable it to be able to run a clean install?

also, I still need to install this IRST driver which so far isn't possible.

Im not getting frustrated with anyone here im frustrated with this laptop.

I thought i seen it a couple of hours ago in the advanced section near where the VMD Controller is but just gone back and dont see it at all.... but im certain i seen it earlier but it was greyed out.

Yeah.... I'll be honest, i'm not keen Windows 11 but thankfully I still run Windows 10 on the other system. (keeping up with the jones') lol

Just wish that Microsoft would offer something like the LTE at a cheaper price to save uninstalling all that bloaty stuff.
