Monitor dead?!

Monitor is an Asus VG289Q. 4k/60Hz, two years old

I was using the pc this morning when the screen went blank. It's happened a few times (possibly due to driver issues) but this time it just went off, no power light, nothing.

The external power block gets warm but the monitor is completely dead

Just like that, gone.
Hopefully my Dell 1440p monitor still works, but it's not gonna be the same without 4K and HDR

Sorry this happened to you. With the other monitor, use the same cables to connect the new monitor
reboot and see if it works. Could be the monitor or the power brick is not getting all the power the monitor needs to
power on. Could also be a defective connector. Are you going to get it looked at?

I can't use the Asus power brick as the Dell one connects directly with no external brick.

Do these errors give any clues? Looks like the monitor told the GPU it was goodbye

I assume that you checked the power cable is fully seated in the monitor socket and the power block?

Also have you tried wiggling the power cable at each socket to check for iffy connection? Maybe faulty pins.

If the power cable seems secure... I'd bet it's the power brick has died or is dying.
Power bricks seem to be a serious weak link on all kinds of hardware.

My DELL U3011 has no power brick... just a big fat power cable.
It's 10 years old and has even fallen off my desk once... still works like a champ.

I have but it doesn't hurt to double check.

What I would also suggest next is to verify that the power module (block) is delivering the right amount of power.
That can easily be done with a multimeter . Not expensive and can be used around the house and for electronics.
Amazon UK has a variety of them. If the power module does deliver the right amount of volts / amps then, I
would suggest you take the monitor in to a electronic repair shop to have it assessed, It could be that the connector
is defective or the board is toast. You won't know until it is on a test bed.

Another thought, check that the wall plug is also working properly. You can use the multimeter to test it.

Thanks for all the suggestions. My plan is to take just the power block to the local PC repair shop, they might have a similar monitor they can check it with. If it's just a case of the power block failing I could probably replace it.

There are some nice LG 4K monitors on Amazon for around £600.... (not adverse to getting one!)

I'm able to test my monitor power. My mum has an Asus laptop which has a 19V/3.42A charger, which just happens to be the same power rating as my Asus monitor power brick.
I'll post back with the results on Wednesday. Either the PSU is dead or the monitor is, at least I'll know

Good to know. Please be careful that the connector configuration is the same as the one on the block otherwise
even if you can fit the connector, it doesn't mean that the power distribution will be the same. Just a heads up.
A simple multimeter is a very handy piece of equipment to have around even if you don't use it often. They are
cheap and easy to read. I still have my analog one from when I was in college (damn, that's a long time ago) but.
I do have a newer digital one as well.
Keep us informed of your progress either way.

Laptop PSU doesn't power up the monitor so I now that it's now officially dead. Bought in July 2021

Well, glad to see that you were able to verify it but, pls, do yourself and me a favor and
contact a service center to make sure the monitor is really dead. You know it could be a
simple connector issue. That monitor you point too is 700 pounds!!! for a 32 inch screen.
Amazon is having one of their sales on the 10th of October, at least hold off until then.
Do you guys have that Black Friday sale or Cyber Monday sale ? If so, you could make
a killer deal during those days. have you given any thought of maybe looking at a
curved screen instead? I have a 32 Optix from MSI. It's a VA panel and not an IPS one but,
it's allot of fun to have the screen wrap around you while playing. Just saying.

I haven't decided yet, I'm going to wait to see if any other problems crop up (shouldn't do, it was just bad luck with the keyboard and screen).
I prefer IPS to other screen types, and I don't have an issue paying £800 for a monitor!

Did your other monitor work and if it did was it with the same HDMI cable? If it did then it does look like it's the monitor. This is a long shot but if you feel confident enough you could take the back off and see if it has a burned out fuse or a tripped circuit breaker. This should be needless to say but make sure the monitor is unplugged first.

Using the same DP cable as the failed one was connected with, in the same port from my GPU so can confirm that's definitely not the issue. I probably don't have the confidence to take the back off it!

Then it's best to leave it alone and decide to either have it fixed or buy the new monitor you're looking at.
