I got this Raider GE78HX-13VI on 8/20/23 and my first run on Cinebench R23 I got 32, 780 multi core. About a week later my same Cinebench R23 score is 24,000. Is my cpu dying? I have 12 more days before I can send it back to Amazon. I have not overclocked it ever. Anyone got an idea why I'm getting such low scores now. Thank you.

What's the exact build number of your version of Windows. Type: winver in the Taskbar search box to find out.

Something changed between 8/20 and now. It could be a lot of things.
Your CPU is doing something in the background when you're running Cinebench.
An update perhaps. Maybe a new chipset driver? Something changed in the BIOS (not overclocking)?

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
did you have the laptop plugged in when you ran both tests?

My build is 22H2/ 22621.2215 and yes I was powered on when I ran the bench. No overclock. I had windows update paused . Thanks to both of you for your help.

When using Benchmarks you should note the conditions under which it was taken. If you don't then you cannot make a valid comparison later on.

e.g. The manufacturer will supply an application which sets various parameters like power consumption, CPU mode, GPU mode and so on. Each of those will impact performance and hence a benchmark.

Manufacturers will use various expressions for this, on mine, a different brand, it is Thermal Mode and GPU working mode amongst other related settings, you can also disable 8 CPU cores if you wish.

Experiment yourself with these various modes and save the benchmarks noting in detail the different settings.

You will easily be able to reproduce a result of 32,780 > 24,000.

No worries your CPU is not dying.

Well I sent the MSI Raider back to Amazon and bought an Asus Strix Scar 17" with a Ryzen 7945HX cpu and 4090 gpu for $100 less. I started getting random shutdowns at an idle and slowly degrading cpu performance with the Raider.
