There was some information you gave in the MSI thread that would have been helpful here.

You never told us here that you dropped a screw on the board or that another GPU was also only going to 8X.

Decide which thread you want to deal with here on 11 forum or on the MSI forum as a lot of advice given on MSI is just being repeated here.

Best to deal with one site or the other.

I would suggest all on this thread read through his thread on MSI to see what all they have been trying.

I provided a link on post #97 to the MSI thread.

Just for kicks you could try swapping out the power switch with an older one that works. You don't have to remove the original from your case. Make sure the switch is connected to the PSW pins and not the reset pins on your system board. I keep a number of these handy as I cannibalize old PCs and often turn them into something better.

Yes. It really is looking to be a PSU issue. If the problem can be duplicated with a working replacement switch correctly hooked up to the PSW pins then I would suggest it is the power supply. Of course, if you have about four dozen power supplies kicking around in your basement like I do you could just swap one out and test it. If the behaviour stops then it's the PSU.

Not sure why you can't create a power plan in Windows. You should be able to do this.

Have you considered trying a different PSU? Do you know anyone who can loan you one if you don't have a spare?

Well, I'm out of ideas. IF I tried everything listed in this thread and my multi-meter provided acceptable loads on all connections I'd be thinking about checking that warranty on the system board. Of course, I would have also tried another PSU just for kicks (just because I can) and I would try it with a reset button and check to make sure that my PSW pins were connected correctly to the on/off switch. I would also disconnect all the drives and test it with a simple Linux OS just to verify that it wasn't some glitch in the OS. But that's me. I have the hardware and the tools to play with. You could bring it into a shop where they could assess it for you. If connecting a reset switch and tucking it inside the case works you could always just ignore the problem. I let my mains run 24/7 pretty much, but again, that's just me. Plus my reset works just fine.

From a cmd prompt, execute powercfg -restoredefaultschemes . Let us know if that doesn't work.

It restored 3 power plans: balanced, high performance and power saving but the advanced settings are disabled

Well, that is progress ... then try this:

Open and expand Device Manager > System Devices
Right click on all Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System drivers that are under System Devices.
Select Uninstall device for each one. Do not restart computer until each one has been removed.
Restart the Computer, and Windows will reinstall devices.
Check your Power Plan settings.

Just a shot in the dark, but in my list of devices in Device Manager, I see a listing for "ACPI Power Button". Maybe uninstalling it and then rebooting would fix it? Oh, and by the by, absolutely no problems with my PC.
