Windows 11 - Release Preview channel
I appear to have a Yahoo browser hijack of Chrome on a notebook machine I've mine. I've tried both resetting and reinstalling Chrome to no avail. I thought next I would try deleting the Chrome folder in C: user data but does anybody know of a surefire way to remove the hijack?

Where are those permissions found? It's doing weird stuff like a new Google tab shows the Google logo but has no search bar.

Isn't Yahoo a default search provider available to choose in Chrome?
Is Yahoo shown as default like Google is in my screenshot?

Is Yahoo shown as default like Google is in my screenshot?
I'm not in front of this machine at the moment, but I recall it had defaulted to Yahoo instead of Google and when I set it back to Google it changed to Yahoo again.

I checked and the default search provider was set to McAfee Secure Search. The McAfee AV that came on the machine is now expired but it's still hijacking the search engine...

Interestingly the McAfee Secure Search has a Yahoo icon associated to it.

Check your browser settings and remove any extension you have relating to search and restart browser..

Mcafee AV comes on a lot of new computers and their products have never been easy to uninstall. After removing Mcafee search extensions from all your browsers and all Mcafee AV using regular Windows uninstall method, run their removal tool, MCPR.
Even after running the tool and restarting, I have still found McAfee folders left behind in programdata and appdata that have to be manually removed.

OR preferably use Revo Uninstaller Free for all your uninstalling needs.. Revo scans the registry and gives you the opportunity to remove registry remnants left behind. There is also a portable version available.
