When NordVPN was active, the NAS (MyCloud and Asustor 6602T) drives were not discoverable. NordVPN tech support asked to uninstall their software. Now it is not possible to access the network drives. (error 0x80070035).

I performed a network reset and also used the admin prompt commands (from an Elevenforum's post)
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset
netsh advfirewall reset
Restart computer

Once again open a command prompt and type:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

I can access the Asustor NAS using the Asustor Control Center app. Win 11 Pro Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.675).
If I try to access the NAS via Windows Explorer, the Network path not found error is returned.
Acronis backups to the NAS will no longer run.
The disk repair commands were run from admin prompt:
1) sfc /scannow
2) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
3) chkdsk /scan

Thank you in advance,

Arne

If I turn on Network Discovery in the Network & internet>Advanced network settings>Advanced sharing settings, the setting will toggle off.

When I check to see if the services
  • DNS Client
  • Function Discovery Resource Publication
  • SSDP Discovery
  • UPnP Device Host
are running, there is not entry for DNS Client

When the PowerShell command (from Elevenforums tutorial)
Set-NetFirewallRule -DisplayGroup "Network Discovery" -Enabled True -Profile Private
is run, Set-NetFirewallRule: Access is denied
is returned.

Any idea how to get Network Discovery working?

An in-place upgrade was done.
Network Discovery is enabled.
Now, when I select the NAS in Windows Explorer the Enter network credentials dialogue appears, but when the admin password is entered it is returned as incorrect.
I can sign into the NAS using the Asustor Control Panel with the same password that is rejected.

For a slight clarification, when the Enter network credentials dialogue box opens, the statement "The username or password is incorrect" is present before any password is entered.
I have tried clearing out the network credentials. Presently, there are no Windows credentials listed.

This is a very frustrating predicament. I can locate the NAS from my laptop.

Anyone have any insight on how to get the logon credentials to respond?

Just to keep the community informed at my desperate plight:

Oh yeah,
Here it comes, the safety of the disclaimer statement. A function of law, not computer science.

When NordVPN was uninstalled, Window Credentials manager began to dysfunction.

NordVPN was installed and interfered with accessing the NAS devices via Windows 11 File Manager.

NordVPN was uninstalled and I can no longer access my Asustor NAS, an organization that has at least made some effort to maintain error trap protocols.

Arne

PS I am assuming the lack of response indicates a lack of understanding of how to proceed.

"Well, the issue won’t be resolved with the NAS, it is a Win 11 Credentials Manager problem.

Why are you telling me to contact the NAS manufacturer? This will only expend my time and resources?

How is uninstalling NordVPN creating a problem with a network login?"

>>Since the issue remains even after uninstalling NordVPN, it is not caused by our application. Furthermore, NordVPN does not make lasting changes to your network that could cause such an issue.

>>Therefore, we highly advise you to contact the NAS device support team.

I am not a computer expert, but it seems to me this answer is inconsistent.

Perhaps, the general population is not become disturbed by this type of permissiveness?
