Solved New build - CPUs


If you look on Amazon you can get some really good motherboard / CPU combo deals, that's how I did mine , I got a Gigabyte Z790 Gaming Plus AX motherboard and and intel i9-12900K Unlocked CPU for the price for what I would have paid for the new CPU alone.

You said that you want to use it for gaming. For that, AFAIK the AMD option would be the better choice by far.

Thanks hdmi, but My primary purpose for the new build was/is to accommodate Apollo Twin X Gen 2 Quad audio interface. Gaming and other functions are secondary to that objective. The Apollo doesn't play well with AMD and is unsupported by Universal Audio.

Thanks for all comments and input.

I've been an Intel man for as long as I've been building machines (decades), but given the dubious Intel offerings coupled with the socket uncertainty, I decided to buy a Mac Mini M4 Pro. Traitorous? Perhaps, but Intel has left me no option in this case. Add to that that the Apollo Twin X was natively built for Mac (USB was ported later and is reported to have a lot of issues), and the Mac seems the only choice.

I'm not a Mac Convert, but the Mac Mini will serve as a dedicated mixing/sound studio machine.

Again, all the info is appreciated. Thanks for the help! I'll likely be back once the Intel dust settles.

Maybe it makes sense to distance yourself that much from DiY, given your intended use.

It's one reason I swore never to 'do' Mac...you do things Apple's way and Apple's way only. But according to all in the know, the Apollo interfaces work like a dream on Mac and take a dump in windows.

Another benefit in my case is that the Mac mini truly is tiny...like about 5" square. I have 4 PC towers under my desk and 5 monitors on it. So that's a highlight.

I think this is probably the best choice for your needs. Apple products have great support for audio processing and music mixing and production. (y)

I see your point. From what I gather, It used to work fine with the v9 software, but the driver that the v10 software comes with is beyond hopelessness. IMO the Neural DSP Quad Cortex seems a much better investment than getting a Mac, though.
