Hello Everyone,

I'm currently looking to upgrade my GPU. I've been looking at the RX 9070 XT OC due to the competitive price but I've got zero experience with Radeon or AMD.
Would this bottleneck my current specs? I'm aware of having to use DDU and wiping out NVIDIA drivers if it does get to that point. I'm mostly interested for performance and not really interested in RT or anything involving improving graphics.. I'm more for performance and high framerates. I also play at 1440p 165Hz.

Any advice or recommendations I would really appreciate.

Hi @BrandonR

I've been a AMD Radeon owner for the last 2 years (own the rx 7900 xtx in my signature below). I've had no issues with the actual card. Had a few niggles with AMD software/drivers but no more than when I had Nvidia cards. The current drivers/software are actually quite good on my PC.

Re the 9070 performance in games at 1440p, this is from an extensive review by Techpowerup. it shows the relative performance in games at 1440p for a huge list of GPUs. The RX 7090's are only 6% behind my high-end card.

Hello @Marcus Vinicus

I really appreciate the response! It's quite fascinating seeing the differences here.. May I ask what is the difference between the RX and Sapphire RX 9070 XT Pulse? is it just a fancy name or is there something to this? I'm clearly out of the loop with this.

@BrandonR

TechPowerUp (TPU) keep a comprehensive database of GPUs and their specifications going back forever. Here is the full details of the standard AMD model 9070 and all other known variants (scroll down the page a bit).

I bit geeky this database, but an important resource maintained by TPU.

Thank you @Marcus Vinicus

I'm probably going to go with the OC edition as I tend to go towards the most powerful variant available. I've gotten recommendations all over for the RX 9070 XT . at heart I'm loyal to NVIDIA but I simply can't justify $1,000 for a GPU now.. so I gotta give Radeon a chance.

In this respect there is really no difference between AMD GPUs and Nvidia GPUs. Different board partners simply put their little tweaks on their respective designs. Mostly it's in the cooler design itself as some will have more effective cooling thus allowing perhaps slightly more performance.
The 9070 XT pricing is kinda convoluted currently. Very few at MSRP and mostly waaaaaay above MSRP. Either way the 9070 XT is a very good GPU. Honestly I'd rather purchase the 5070 TI but it's even more expensive for what little more it offers.

I'm a computer enthusiast so have quite a few systems that I run. More like an advanced hobby.
I've pretty much made up my mind and going to buy the RX 9070 XT. Thanks for the help. Marking as solved.
I have both the XFX variants of the 7900XT and the RX 9070XT OC edition with removable magnetic fans. No issues there. The 9070 is in my main rig, the 7900 is now in my backup rig. (see system specs).

The 7900 XT / XTX are the more powerful cards, but the 9070 XT cards provide better visuals with the inclusion of FSR 4, and better Ray Tracing performance for games that support it.

So in short if the most frames you want the 7900XT/XTX, if visuals are and newer is preferred, the 9070XT. The 7900 XTX is going to be the more powerful card, and most expensive card with the most VRAM (24gig). The 9070XT is newer, cheaper with better visuals and features but tops at 16gig VRAM.

Of the best of the 9070XT's the XFX Mercury OC cards are at or near the top. Visually, I love the AORUS Radeon RX 9070 XT ELITE 16G, but that card is damn near impossible to find, and especially at any reasonable prices. BTW, the XFX Mercury RX 9070XT OC isn't cheap too, but you can still get it just shy of 1K. I found my at Microcenter for $919. Most places have the Aorus Elite going $1100 and up.

Anyway, just FYI. Good luck on your choice :-)
