Yeah, it looks like the newer ATX 3.1 GPU 12V-2x6 power connector isn't much better. I believe it isn't any better on graphics cards that are not designed for it helps with a couple of modifications to the ATX 3.0 12VHPWR connector: lengthening the terminal conducting pins and shortening the sense pins that detect that it is not connected in properly at the GPU.

It melted on the PSU side! It was Brink from this forum who posted it on eleven forum and/or tenforum.

Wow. I didn't know that we were discussing a specific case here. All the videos I've ever seen on this subject point to the graphics cards catching fire. Not that head space safety can't be an issue on both sides of the equation. Thank you for the clarification. Man, that's just crazy. Evidently, standards are dropping. No surprise there.

(Still, I will personally never buy anything branded "Corsair" ever again.) I'm done with their junk.

Agreed. They don't even make their own silicon. That said there was a time when they had a reputation for quality and reliability. My old Dominator (Samsung B die RAM) and my 1000 Watt Platinum Hi PSU are still working fine. They also used to manufacture solid cases and fans that lasted. Then they started selling janky components like Corsair Commander and garbage software. From my understanding the company was sold and its been downhill ever since. A classic story, I know.

I found a link to the melted power supply. I remembered the brand name be quiet! so it was easy to find again. It's with an RTX 4090.

My ASUS KO NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 V2 OC Edition uses ye olde double plug and I'm fine with that. The thing that annoyed me the most about this card is that the shroud is so thick that the card takes up three PCIe slots despite only using one. Not acceptable. I removed the shroud. Could care less about the RGB glitz.

Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.

I have a 4090 running off a BeQuiet! Straight Power 12, using the 12VHPWR cable. Had the PSU since late January, 2024.

No melt-downs so far.

The cable plugs click nicely when seated in the GPU and PSU.

Not all RTX 4090/5090s and Be Quiet PSUs melt.
At the time, Be Quiet said this was the only case of PSU melting.

With just a few anecdotes, it's hard to guess whether there's a design/manufacturing issue, or mostly a user problem.

However, we prefer designs that are not susceptible to user errors. The old 6 and 8 pin PCI-E connections seemed more foolproof.

Yes, it's faster.
And users who have problems, according to videocardz, have little difficulty with RMAs.

There are other considerations, though. A 600W GPU (Some 4090s, most 5090s) would require four 8 pin PCI-E connections. (150W each.) Plus a connection for the 4 sense pins in a 12VHPWR cable.
