Thank you. That appears to have confirmed that the camera is doing exactly as well as it was meant to. Very disappointing. Especially considering that the ability to use the camera was allegedly one of the selling points.

The camera is a selling point in terms only of convenience.
Dell's description of the webcam lacks confidence in video quality. It is only described as "razor sharp video". Not "high definition" or "1080p" resolution.

True, but the actual specs of the camera are 1080p. At least according to the sytem info. I installed a standalone with (as far as I can tell) identical specs and it actaully is "razor sharp."

The same is true for Multifunctional printers. In cheap models the scanner is WIA only (Windows Image Acquisition) which gives a not perfect picture without any controls to improve it. Standalone scanners have TWAIN drivers which give much better pictures and many controls to fine tune and improve them. Similarly your monitor has a camera for convenience but it doesn't compare to a good standalone webcam.
