I don't even have the forum app installed. In fact, I have no forum apps installed on PC or phone.

I took a look at this mess when it first was announced. I didn't like it, and within a few minutes, I'd backed out of it.

I don't care about that since I don't often visit the site from my phone; and I rarely post from the phone, so I see no need for the app, but that's me.

Data mining. That’s all most of the app’s are good for. In the TOS of most app’s, they let you know the degree of data collection. On Apple apps page, developers have to tell you right away on the apps page what they gather, but the info and what they tell you they gather is more than often ambiguous.
Data… ”They” value it more than gold. My opinion’s on data mining and the terms I’d use would get me booted.

BTW, I need to switch my default email app cause every time I click an email on the net Windows Outlook opens. Need O365.

Yep as Outlook 365 is something that isn't free so it's not really a valid comparison and ofcourse those who had never seen or used Outlook365 still wouldn't know it's not as good as usually it's when you know or are exposed to something better already. I don't use apps for email as my preference when it comes to speed wise is to connect directly to the server by ssh and use a mail reader directly on the server in text mode and when I need to see the graphics, I'll just bounce the mail to a web based email where I will use the browser until I discover some software that actually is fast with the huge amount of emails I have that doesn't lag like the browser does.

and perhaps I misunderstand so, I'll clarify my use by saying I use the Outlook 365 app not because I'm unaware of anything better but because in my 25+ years of use it's never had me looking for anything else. It works for me, and that's good enough.

I know what you meant but remember you have already been exposed to Outlook 365 and it's basically what you are used to using and you like it for what it is that even if there was something better, you still wouldn't switch to it. Similar to me using Microsoft Money even though it's obsolete but it's still the best thing for tracking investments including the ones that are no longer held. Maybe the other way to say it is similar to people who have used a PC and Windows, they will not look at using a Mac regardless if the Mac was better or not so I guess there are two scenarios, one is you already used something that is better or your preference. The other is there might be something better but you have no reason to even look into it. Same reason I like to have as direct access to the mail as possible and not use any software like Endora which was 1990s for email when I can ssh directly to the mail server and send and receive way faster than anything that involves a GUI.

This is terribly lazy, to say the least. This is just the web version in a PWA wrapper using Edge (hence why it asks for it erroneously in certain systems) Of course they talk about ad-less if you pay for 365 sub, because it's teh same as the web version, which, surprisingly (not) enough, has ads.

Lazy, really REALLY lazy. It doesn't even notify for new emails inside folders, only when they reach inbox.

Hopefully, Thunderbird at least does the job, and does it nicely enough.

Thanks Microsoft, for another lazy solution for coding a simple mail app... Please hire real coders, thank you.

It's the same problem with all 'Web' PWA apps - they are basically web wrappers. Either keep proper apps or don't bother - pretending they're apps when they're just glorified shortcuts is pointless. Sadly it's the way of the future.

Yeah. The thing is, not all things we have are app-worthy. More and more, people are making use of online services and products, and there is no reason for creating an application for an OS / multiple OSs that requires time and effort by a development team to keep them updated, maintain their security, etc.

And using development packages like Electron can land you in real hot water, as seen with the whole recent libwebp fiasco - Google and Apple both ignored reporting that their recent CVE issues lay in the actual libwebp library, which is used all over the place - including as a fundamental ~~library~~ development package in like Electron.

At this point, an app that makes use of Electron has to wait for Electron to be updated, and then the app needs to be updated to the newest version of Electron with the patch. Or, conversely, you have a PWA in a browser that has been patched since last week already.

I think "better" is in the eye of the beholder - you may swear app A is better because it does this and that; but I may think app B is better because the things A does are the things not important to me.

True, I don't know if there are "better" email apps because the one I use has never given me reason to look elsewhere. That's the point.

If you feel the need to hope all over the place in search of the perfect app, have at it; I'll stick to what works for me until it doesn't.

Yes, I meant what you would personally consider is better or not and not someone else as that is what matters at the end of the day, just that I did not say it correctly and used the wrong words but what you said was what I meant.

I solved it with the help of Outlook support: under GMail settings -> Labels -> System labels, the flag to show "All messages" in IMAP must be set.

Interesting. Many years ago, probably over a decade, I had to set that up for my Google Account mail, and have done so for every account since. It might have been because of Outlook, it might have been something else, but, FWIW, that is how I make sure all my accounts are set up.

(As an aside, and not related to this - for label lists, I enable Show if unread where applicable for native GMail system).
