Could also just change the batch code to use a different source path to copy the file, e.g. if the file is on your Desktop instead of your Downloads folder, change the 2nd line to:

What do you mean, "now"? The Date Modified and Date Created fields indicate that those were already in those folders before I had downloaded ExplorerPatcher. Some of the occurrences are hardlinks BTW. Install the free Link Shell Extension if you want to see overlay icons in File Explorer/Everything, by default a red arrow will appear on each hardlink, and, if you right-click and choose Properties on a hardlink, you will see an extra tab named Link Properties. It is a very handy little piece of freeware to have, it can be useful to basically anyone who uses the NTFS filesystem on Windows.

I tried to download 22000.58.30.6 from the GitHub and Norton deleted it as a threat with WS.reputation.1 I don't know if that is true or not but the previous version downloaded fine

Thanks AndreTen I want to be able to keep a copy but Norton keeps deleting it, then I would go on the web to virus total drag the file into that and double check.
If you want to try it it is: VirusTotal
Norton does go a bit ott sometimes with checking.

Files like this are often marked as suspicious (per nature of the file). As long as there is a workaround, we can live with that

So, all your Taskbar icons stay there after the update? I have to check them all again (in properties..)

I'd like to begin with the following definition: Windows: what is the group of icons by the clock called?

"The "taskbar" is the entire bar with the launcher, program icons, clock, show-desktop-button and little group of icons called the...."

But other people in this 9 year old thread are of the opinion, that the "System Tray" or "Notification area" (which in my opinion is only part of the System tray) is someting different from the taskbar.

Of course, you're right. Should be more precise. Was talking about System tray icons: Network, Sound Language indicator, etc.
Have to enable them all after reinstall

Save the batch file and dxgi.dll together in the same folder. Any location at all.
That will copy dxgi.dll from any folder without needing to specify where you have it saved.

I think it should be like this:
copy "%~dp0\dxgi.dll" C:\Windows
(Only the actual filepath itself should be put between doublequotes, whereas C:\Windows is a folderpath that contains no space characters so, there, doublequotes aren't required.)

So what apps can't you add to the Windows 11 TaskBar? I've seen no problem adding whatever I want.

Where did you ever get that? I can Right-Click on any app or program and I have the option to either pin it to my Start Menu or add it to my task bar. That's the same way it worked in Windows 10.

Looks like a recent Microsoft update (perhaps .258) has changed that behaviour.

... Sometimes it needs something like a nuclear bomb (or ExplorerPatcher) to change the mind of Microsoft !!!

Edit: in any case: I won't change back. ... ... "Lost trust is lost trust" (even if the GUI of WIN 11 is nice).

Fair play, I like it how it is but it didn't fit into the way I work very well, it made everything I do use extra clicks to get there and the layout didn't flow for me so I use EP and love it

In fairness here too, I'm a fast touch typist. I use my keyboard at the stream of thought. I use keyboard shortcuts to get to most everything I do, eliminating mouse clicks.

I'm not that clever, mine is just modding old games so I use a lot of switching between programs, I guess I'm too old school to learn new tricks :ROFLMAO:
