New Version of ExplorerPatcher

From what I understand reading this, ExplorerPatcher uses Windows own Start menu.
So Microsoft must've broken something, since it is an unsupported menu it probably won't be fixed.

I checked Start11, but their menu doesn't have Live tiles (and since they've never mentioned they'll add it I doubt they will) and StartAllBack doesn't have the Windows 10 menu. Ah well. Guess I'll have to live with the subpar Start11 menu now.
That's why I use Start11 from Stardock, it gives you the option to choose between the Windows 7, 10, or 11 Start menu

Here's mine on Windows 11:

At Redirecting the last reply (from grygorius at March 10, 2022) says: " the tall setting of this project's resulting (Win10) TaskBar (3-line Time/Calendar) ". Where can I find that "tall setting" of the Explorer Patcher, please?

Except live tiles. Plus it's heavier than native W10 Start Menu

I give you: ... :)

1676663506931.png

Just kidding, really, but I'm slowly coming to terms with win11 native start. With the latest ability to group apps into a 'folder', to re-arrange app position, and to dedicate more space to apps / less to recommendations, I'm finding it 'not bad'. Also - I've slowly - ever since Win 7, which is still the 'gold standard' in terms of 'start' - been transitioning away from 'desktop' and 'start menu' shortcuts, towards a) pinning most-used apps to the taskbar, and b) using the 'search' feature to find all the other apps (that is - hit 'start', then type 'w' and WhatsApp, Word, etc will all be revealed). I wish MS wouldn't screw with this stuff, but I'm now in love with pinned apps on the taskbar, whereas I refused to even try it initially!

Sorry if this has been answered previously, but there are so many pages/posts to look through. :)

Today I finally upgraded to 22H2, and I see that the Start Menu is back to the W11 style, which I simply don't like. I also don't see a setting in Explorer Patcher to change it to the Win10 style, which I simply DO like.

Is the menu something that can no longer be tweaked with EP? I'll be a sad puppy if that's the case.

As long as you can cope with the Win11 start menu, EP still works well for the taskbar (which is the most important if you ask me).
OBS I am talking about the EP preview version, 22621.819.52.2. That is the one to use.

I agree the taskbar is more important to me than the start menu. But I will miss the Win10 style menu. Hopefully the taskbar will continue to work for a long time to come.

I knew this was coming. the project was maintained by a single person having to battle with the constant changes of Windows builds every few weeks. I stopped using it long ago after having endless Explorer.exe crashes which only occur when it's installed.

You also have the option to use either the Start11 menu or the Windows 11 menu.
You can use either one.
To be honest, the most important thing for me is being able to ungroup taskbar items of open folders. I can't stand that grouped look where you have to click on file explorer then another click to select the open folder that you want but I will not touch ExplorerPatcher again as it's too buggy.

For ExplorerPatcher fans, I personally think that StartAllBack is a better option, and more likely to be supported into the future.

So what?

Explorer patcher is no longer maintained it seems -sadly-
What makes you think that?
There's nothing on the project's GitHub page or the author's profile page to indicate that it is no longer being developed or maintained.

Valinet issued a statement about future development, that I find a bit confusing, that confirms that he won't be publishing updated EP versions on GitHub but will keep developing the tool.
Public forums closure - Discussion #1068 - valinet_ExplorerPatcher - GitHub

All the best,
Denis
