I downloaded Optimum 24H2 Pro and opened the 7z archive and extracted the iso to a USB flash drive. I mounted the iso.
In the Sources folder, I found setup.exe but when I clicked on this, I got an error.

You can updated it using The MSU , at least on 24H2

I just enable Windows Updates as my laptop needed the correct drivers. As installed, my touchpad and audio did not work. Obviously, one could get the drivers from the manufacturer's website.

If anyone is thinking of trying X-Lite, I suggest they copy the downloads and documents folders to a separate partion. During install delete all the other partions and select the unallocated space for the install. X-Lite starts up with no browser but includes installers for Foxtrot, Edge and Chrome. I prefer Brave so I had that in the downloads folder along with Revo Uninstaller Pro, Macrium Reflect, WhatsApp, TeamViewer and all my favourite programs. This saves having to download all these again.

That's good to know. If it's not possible to apply 'feature upgrades' using an updated X-Lite Installation ISO, that may also mean that other regularly used processes such as repair installs might also be similarly compromised

Given your experience I would agree certainly agree with yoiur suggestion of locating user data on a separate Partition/Drive; location and it should be possible set up Directory Junctions if there is any need to maintain the illusion of everything being on C:\ - I've only ever installed/tested X-Lite as a Virtual Machine and do tend to store data on a separately attached Host Folder/'networked' Drive, which provides similar protection and easy backup/sharing options.

That's the only way to go. If you don't, then you have to search for the drivers you need and that's a pain. Or use IObit or SDI to get them. Some people don't like 3rd party driver finders but they seem to work for me.

I just tried 4.6 in my VMware, it doesn't go too well. The video resolution is all wrong and i can't fix it. All other editions of X-Lite have worked fine.
Tried the driver updater which is a trial and defender does not like it.
Perhaps it will install ok with a real installation.
EDIT:
I told VMware it was win 10 and it installed as it should.

I installed this new build and resumed updates. Downloaded everything I need for my PC (drivers, etc.) and joined the Preview
Release Insider and everything seems to be running quite well.

I like X-Lite. . Except for the X-Lite logo when it starts up. I'd rather replace that with the regular Windows logo, but not sure how

Easy. Just go to personalize and change the photo at startup.
