This isn't a particular issue to windows 11, I've recently changed my Intel optane nvme to a Samsung 970 Evo Pro, I cannot install the Samsung driver as Samsung Magician says the drive is not connected. Bios sees it, Device Manager sees it, diskmgmt sees it and I'm typing in the very laptop with the Evo in place. Under storage controllers it still has the Intel RST drivers. I can't find (believe me I've tried) anyway to get the drivers to install.

Any advice would be appreciated

I had this bug in Win 10.
Tried everything what I found on net.
Nothing works.
Solved only with a Win 10 clean install and installed only Samsung NVME driver but NO IRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology).

Tried that, it won't see the drive until I install the IRST drivers. Only then can I see the drive to install the OS. The Samsung drivers are only downloaded as an .exe so that rules replacing the driver at initial install

Was the Optane drive used as a cache, or as a stand-alone drive? I'd guess the former.

If it was used as a cache, there may be a BIOS setting that needs to be changed. You don't specify your laptop, but I found some HP advice. Optane

Look under "How do I enable or disable the Intel Optane memory in system BIOS?".

This is what I have, I've uninstalled the RST controllers and rebooted but I have to inject them again on reboot from a ext usb to get the system to see the drive

Correction, yeah the Intel driver is still installed. You can remove the drivers but windows won't boot if you don't have a driver for the NVME. Usually MS assigns one by default.

It was the one and only drive installed by the manufacturer so the octane drive was used to cache
"Cache" means a small drive used at accelerate data handling with a much larger drive. That could be a spinner, or even an SSD.

Your laptop only contained an Optane drive? Possible, but uncommon. Large Optane drives are expensive.

You need to switch SATA mode to AHCI in BIOS to use Samasung NVMe Driver.
it's AHCI by default, there's no option to switch from or to anything else in BIOS

What motherboard are you installing the NVMe drive to? And are you installing the drive directly into an m.2 port, or are you using a PCIe adapter?

I have two Samsung NVMe 970 Pros on my main rig in system specs (system one) and had no issue installing the NVMe drivers from Samsung. That said, since my board Gigabyte Z390 Xtreme natively supports NVMe drives, I just connected them to the board's m.2 ports.

Again, odd that you can't install the drives unless you're using an adapter, or perhaps an AMD board? I only know Intel so....

Yeah, laptops are different. Not really surprised those drivers won't install especially if the laptop doesn't natively support PCIe NVMe drives on it's m.2 port

Anyway, I have an Asus Zenbook Prime (UX31A) from 2013 with a 256gig SSD drive, but the drive is an odd size with a different connection point. That said, out of curiosity, what year is your laptop?

At the end of the day that drive may not be fully compatible - It might work as a "drive" but may not support an OS booting off it. And yes, if you can't install the Samsung drivers Magician is going to complain.
