no mouse or keyboard

Hello everyone I do hope yoiu can help me please. Just recently tried to update drivers, now I have no mouse or keyboard. Windows boots up but cannot check anything because no mouse etc. Have tried everything,I am beggining to wonder if pc is knackered. Thanks

What type of mouse and keyboard do you have? Bluetooth, USB, Bolt, Wireless or plug in type (remember them). Windows should detect which type you have and install the correct driver/s.

Did this happen after installing a new device or even a new computer?
Has it been so from the beginning or did it function correctly before.
If it has been functioning like it should, what has been changed in your sysem? A driver, a software update?

It sounds like you've lost bluetooth. For sure you should be able to connect a standard usb corded mouse and keyboard and get functionality back and more than likely a standard wireless would probably work as well. If they won't work connected to the back, try the front connectors. .If you don't have one to try, maybe borrow one. I don't know what they cost where you live but a cheap bundle including both as corded is about $15 in the US. Also, many Dell PC still have the really old ps2 connections that can be used in emergencies. It's not as easy to find those.

If you can get a keyboard to work, but still have no mouse or touchpad

you might be able to navigate the screen with TAB and SHIFT-TAB. You can also use keyboard shortcuts. WIN+X for example and then use the cursor keys. If you need to enter a password or PIV it's possible but slow as you will have to navigate to Accessibility and select on-screen keyboard.

I'll just log out and verify that it is possible

If you see menu items with one letter underlined, that is a shortcut. In some programs you will need to hold down ALT before pressing these keys.

Press Win+X and then cursor down to Device Manager or press 'm'. Then press TAB to put the focus on all the devices. See if any mouse or keyboard is listed, perhaps with an exclamation mark next to it. Move up and down with the up and down cursor keys and open/close sub-headings with cursor-right and cursor left.

thanks guys for answerin, have tried wire keyboard and mouse but no joy, my present system is wireless over bluetooth. I was trying to update drivers when it happened. Hace used alternative wired keyboard and mouse but nothing, and cannot upate because of no input at all. I am beggining to think this is a hardware issue? everything was working fine before.

If only you had a backup on a bootable USB device or had an alternate OS in the boot menu.

Do you have access to a second computer or are you using a phone to post?

I believe in getting as many resources as possible to fix things 1 Win11 forum, friends and now we have AI co-piolet that appears on the upper right-hand corner of edge screen I just dropped your problem in Co-piolet this is what it suggests

if you get into safe mode and a wired keyboard doesnt work, it sounds more like a hardware (the actual usb ports) issue

Another possibility is to try and boot into recovery by powering off the computer. Restarting it and as soon as you see a screen, press F11.
It works on most computers. From recovery you have several repair options.
