No Signal/Display on TV?

Hello,

I bought a brand new laptop HP Victus 15-fa1006na Gaming Laptop. Connected it to my LG OLED CX TV via a HDMI v2.1 cable but I get nothing on my tv. My PC desktop works via the hdmi on the nvidia gpu but not on the laptop using the same hdmi cable.

The laptop is 1080 144Hz.

The tv is 4k 120Hz that is compatible with g-sync.

Both above have hdmi v2.1 port, cant understand why it isn't working? Do I turn off the laptop display 1st?

What do I do?

Did you choose the proper input on the TV?

Not all HDMI 2.1 implementations are equal. There may be some kind of incompatibility.

Try a wireless connection.

Press Win+P to see some options, like first screen only (laptop), extend (continue desktop on TV), clone (copy laptop screen on TV) and second screen only (TV). If you don't see these try another HDMI cable or update your graphics drivers.

Yes Hdmi 1 same I used for my PC desktop. Do I have to enable hdmi ouptut in the Bios or something or disable the Intel Integrated graphics in the laptop bios to allow the nvidia 4060 laptop gpu to take over?

Rather unlikely, you better stick with HDMI, unless the TV also has Display Port input. Update the nVidia drivers directly from www.nvidia.com My GTX 1050 on my main PC has no problem doing 3840x2160 at 60Hz via HDMI

Hi yes which one takes full advantage of the display capabilities of the tv? Windows manages this or Nvidia? How do I do this through Nvidia instead of Windows? Still having the issue.

Curious to know this is a new laptop I bought with a new 4060 nvidia gpu in it so its not like the drivers are a few years old. Should work straight away out of the box right? The hdmi port on laptop should work too correct or can outdated drivers by a few months can cause such issues?

By default Windows use the internal display. Press Win+P to clone the image on TV. There may also be a combination such as FN+F5 (or just F5) depending how you have configured the FN key in BIOS.

I see the f5 button on my laptop is the mute key.

P.S., still in Windows Settings | System | Display, you might also want to adjust the Scale setting. On my Sony Bravia XR-55X90J (55″ 4k LED TV), setting it to 150% works best for me. My laptop is an ASUS ASUS TUF Gaming A15 (2022) (1080p 300Hz). My TV is a Samsung UN43RU7100 (4K 60Hz).

If I connect the laptop to one of the TVs free HDMI ports the TV's video input automatically switches to the laptop. While the laptop is connected to the TV its refresh rate stays at 300Hz. Note if I disconnect the laptop I have to use the TVs remote to manually switch its input back to the cable box.

Have you tried to change the laptop's refresh rate to 120Hz to match the TV?

If I am right, when you clone both displays are set to a common resolution and refresh rate, such as 1366x768 60Hz for my laptop. When you extend the desktop the displays are independent, such as 1366d768 60Hz for my laptop and 1920x1080 60Hz for the TV.

Hi to clarify, firstly I have to set the resolution and refresh rate on my laptop manually to whatever my tv supports then it will work? My laptop screen is 1080p 144Hz but my tv can only do max 120Hz. So I have to lower the refresh rate on my laptop to 60Hz to get it working you mean? It is not auto plug and play where the tv does not select refresh rate and resolution automatically?

You don't need to do anything. Windows check the capabilities of each display and find a common resolution, such as 1920x1080 if your laptop screen is also full HD. The default refresh rate is 60Hz so this is chosen, unless you manually increase it to 120Hz and is remembered next time.

AFAIK all OLED TV models from the LG CX series are 4k capable. By choosing to either let the laptop clone the picture (so it duplicates the same exact picture on both displays) or let the laptop extend your desktop (from the primary display to the secondary one so your desktop spans across both displays) you will automatically be limited to 1080p (i.e. due to the laptop's built-in display) which, under a lot of circumstances (but certainly not all) seems a bit daft IMO especially when considering that you have a 4090 card.

Normally, "1" translates to the laptop's built-in display so, "Show only on 2" would be the next logical step to try... one display at a time as opposed to immediately trying them both at once increasing the chance of pitfalling right off the bat, and besides, you can always decide to experiment with "Clone" and "Extend" later (if you still must).

That said, I have been using laptops with TVs through HDMI since early 2009. That's on Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and 11. Before that, Windows XP on a custom-built desktop PC with a 3.4 GHz Intel Pentium IV and an Asus GeForce 7800 GTX Top Edition. That's right... the Top Edition was the one that came bundled with a VIVO (Video In Video Out) breakout box from Asus. (...And Hitman.

Okay originally problem is now fixed because I think I damaged the hdmi cable because I flex the cable too much, push back to the wall too much causing the hdmi cable to flex too much and when I unflex straighten the hdmi cable I can now see the image on my tv. This is the hdmi cable that came with the xbox series x not some cheap cable so I'm surprised that a flex in the hdmi cable can damage it. So hdmi cables cannot tolerate flexes in its length or at its ends (the cable part)?

Ordered new hdmi cable hopefully delivered before xmas

Okay now I have a new problem:

Use HDR setting is greyed out and above it windows says HDR is supported however HDR video streaming is not supported and below it windows says to help improve battery life, support for hdr games and apps is turned off temporarily. Okay how do I enable all hdr features for laptop on battery mode?

You may not be able to enable HDR when using the battery.
Even basic graphics drain batteries... fast.

And with a 4K TV... who knows? That may just suck the battery right out of the laptop.
